Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Biznik Groups

I listened to the video and I've heard some of the build of up "Groups."

Now I'm getting invites daily to join groups.

And I've been thinking for many months about what "groups " could mean for me. So this is part of due diligence on my part - making "groups" make some sense to me.

So here are a few questions that might be in other people's minds as well so asking them here might help the cause:

First, in my limited imagination, I've envisioned the value of a "group" that's topical and local to me (in this imaginary scenario, it's a group that I start). That is, many (not all) of the members of this group would be local to me. [And it might be my intention to keep the group "protected," but perhaps change that status later. Can we do that?

Second, given the functions of events and other features, it would be my intention to invite group members with the idea of each contributing by hosting and attending events, writing articles, etc. [This should pose a challenge.]

Third, in the context of group events, offered for a fee, it would only make sense to me to be able to offer these events to people who are not Biznik members - like the public - as well as Biznik members. [Can we do that?]

I apologize if this is all explained somewhere and I just haven't yet come across it yet. I meant to either have conversations or ask about the "group" features but haven't made that happen yet. My first series of thoughts about groups had to do with how we are going to be able to slice and dice the individuals in various groups we belong to an communicate with them en mass. (In the same way that we can communicate with all the attendees of events that we host.)

If the "Group" feature allows us to integrate more activities (including communication activities), and leverage time so that our time and our activities have commercial outcomes I want to get started forming a group:-)

I meant to say "This should not pose a challenge."

Great questions, Dennis. Let's see if I can give satisfying answers...

    1. When you define your group (and if you look at the ones that are already created you can see this), you can choose to allow anyone to join, or make it invite-only.

    2. Each Group has its own Articles, Discussions and Events. This way, you can have any Event you want inside your Group... it has to meet YOUR rules, not the rules for general Biznik Events.

    3. Again, YOU decide what kind of events are OK in your own Group. If you want to do a fee-based event where some people are using the Biznik RSVP tool, and others are not, managing that hairball is all your own responsibility! :-)

There is a fledgling FAQ about Groups. Check it out, and let us know what is missing.

By the way, your new Profile photo is excellent.

If by "hairball" you mean getting the $5 per non-RSVP participant (meaning participants that are not Biznik members) to Dan and Lara, I can handle that.

If there is more to "hairball" could you please elaborate?

And, I will will check out the FAQ.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
