Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion CALLING ALL INDIE TRAINERS!!!

I have a passion in helping others "upp" their training gigs, but I'm constantly seeking venues to learn and grow.

Anybody interested in participating in a Train-the-Trainers feedback session? This could be a one-time thing or an ongoing process...where participants can share/gain the necessary skills to facilitate an effective workshop.

"Effective" might be defined and measured in various ways. That could be our first discussion ;)

Great idea, Jessie. Count this long time trainer in to share what I've learned and to learn from you and all the other participants.

Does it include dancing and coffee? I'm in if it does!

Oh wait.... wrong type of training. Those were my college days.

How about breaking it up into 3-5 minutes "best of" sharing sessions were we can spill our best practices?

I am interested in workshop development. I run several workshops a year and can always use a little boost.

    prrrrrfect!

this will be fun. and, of course, dancing and coffee COULD be our group signature - in a tasteful way, of course :)

off to celebrate this beautiful holi.day in Seattle ~

what do you get when you put together a PI, social media wiz, RE consultant, workshop artist, biz funder and a person who refuses to have just one title?

I don't know the punch line, yet...but we're sure to find out :)

since I don't have a clue what this gathering will turn out to be, how 'bout we start building the possibilities right here?

I know you all are more than your chosen Biznik titles and most of you probably have multiple training interests. This leads me to this Q:

Taking away the content of the workshop(s) you facilitate, what is one main area in which you think you excel and one main area in which you would like to develop yourself?

well, I guess I'll go first and kick this off...

I think I'm pretty good at facilitating audience participation, but would like to learn more about using storytelling in my workshops. I've never considered myself a great storyteller, but I'm guessing one can learn, yes?

also: the balance of stepping up on stage (storytelling) and the leading from the back of the room (facilitating)...

    Next...

I've found that I'm good at reading the signs and symptoms indicating whether individuals are connecting with the program. Knowing something isn't working for someone, I've been very successful at identifying the problem and helping them get connected.

The thing I most want to explore and learn about is finding the right mix of media, audience participation and me in my programs.

I think I'm pretty good at being sensitive to the mood and facilitating thought provoking questions and spuring on discussion and debate. I've done some classes that lasted an hour after a 5 min intro and I never had to say another word.

I am interested in ways to break the ice with groups that do no know each other previously.

    Jessie,

Seeing as I am one of your biggest fans, you know I'd be there as long as I'm not teaching that night or afternoon! :0)

What is one main area in which you think you excel?

I am a jack of all trades, and my strength in training is usually the ability to put myself in the trainees shoes using that personality. I also have an aptitude for taking the most technical jargon and explaining it in non-techie terms.

One main area in which you would like to develop yourself?

I would like to improve on the variety of styles I know, ranging from front stage training to group participation models.

I have a venue with stage, sound system, and big screen.

We have a full bar. And coffee.

I can arrange for a band.

I am also a former recruiter/trainer in the yellow pages industry - one of my incarnations in this lifetime. This interests me greatly.

    Let me know!

john, howard and barry - I made a mindmap out of everything you shared and it's fascinating. I'll post it somewhere to see soon...

I'd like to converge every one's interests so we can begin talking about what type of gathering this will be. do any of you think it's better to continue this discussion outside of the community-wide board? if so, do you know how this is done without posting an event (since a date has yet to be specified)??

jonathon and leif - come let us know what you would like to explore!

nancy - we are lucky to have such creative talent in this group.

julie - your energy is infectious. can't wait to see where you take us. a band? is this a take-off of the dancing and coffee idea? ;)

mike - I'm thinking january sometime, but it's up in the air. the beauty of this is - we can make it whatever we want it to be. your networking background and interests are intriguing and we welcome your talents. I'm sure you'd also benefit from this outstanding group of indie professionals!

Am I late to the party?

I am not the most seasoned presenter but I have a few successes under my belt. I find that I have been most successful when I get out of my head and speak from the heart. I find the heart felt presentation when I am speaking about something I am passionate about and well versed on. I also find my stride when I do all the exercises I know to do that connect me with my core power.

For the most part I want to learn. I could offer thoughts on connecting to and presenting from your true core energy, mustering internal resources and creating exercises for the audience. We could try some NLP based resource building exercises.

Wed. nights are tough for me as I run men’s groups that night.

    Thanks,

    Greg Hoskins

I guess I am supposed to weigh in on one of my strengths and an area that I want to improve on...

Strength - using humor and storytelling in my presentations and classes.

What I want to improve on - not talking so quickly and drawing individual participants back in when I see them fading (usually b/c I have had to share a big block of info w/o interaction from the group)

Looking forward to this event, Jess!

in the mean time, I look forward to hearing about the training areas you both would like to explore!

Let's set a date and time for the 2nd half of January. What do you think. Maybe Julies place (what is available, J? Maybe give a few times/dates to choose from)... Daytime, early afternoon, maybe...

In the meantime, I am looking for a few more authors that have a business oriented message to complete the team we have collaborating on the book, YOUR SALES FORCE. Anyone that wants to find out more, please shoot me an email miked@bizbuilderswa.org or give me a ring 360 710-1374 and we can meet/correspond sooner than January.

Hi! I want to play too! This is a great idea - and I am sure my stuff could use an update. I'm interested in "up-selling" without bashing people over their heads with it. And as for my talents...I'm good at putting people at ease and managing the crowd.

    Thanks Jesse!

HI Jess, Sorry I jumped out of the biznik wagon for a while and missed all the updates, including your follow up questions, so, to answer:
what is one main area in which you think you excel:
-Igniting people's excitement, depth of connection and willingness to take transformative risks.
one main area in which you would like to develop yourself:
-I'd like to be clear with myself and participants before, during and after an what our focus and expected outcomes are (and stick to that).

I look forward to hearing more! Will you propose a few different dates?

    Thanks Jess and Happy Holidays!
    Warmly, Leif
