Wow, when you spend a little time and really dig into this, there really is a difference in thinking. God help us if Obama is just doing the empty promises campaign speak, because he actually sounds like he gets it on this one. McCain seems to be looking to stay with big oil as long as possible, while keeping an open mind, but not really a focus, on renewables. Don't take my word for it, read up and see what you think!

The whole energy issue is an interesting one.

McCain keeps losing my respect, ridiculing Obama for promoting proper tire inflation was pathetic. The fact is the efficiency suggestions Obama made deliver real world immediate benefits.

McCain also flip-flopped on the drilling issue. I feel like the oil prices are leading people to panic into making bad decisions - kinda like what got us into Iraq. Its really an oil company "land grab" rather than a solution to the problem.

Obviously once in office you never know what they'll actually do. My feeling is we need to make this "crisis" an opportunity to invest in domestic greener solutions - its the right thing for our economy and environment.

really well put Kevin! I am really bored with candidates spending money to tell me what's wrong with the other guy as well.

I think that Paris Hilton is the best of all three candidates. Think of what her press conferences would be like.

The drilling issue really irks me. It is a band-aid, and a small one at that. At the cost of irrevocable damage to delicate and rare ecologies, what we'll get is only between 1 to 2 years of the US annual imports of oil. It would fulfill about three months of the world's current annual oil demand of 85 to 90 billion barrels. Kind of puts it in a different perspective, doesn't it?

I recommend reading Bill Roth's recent "On Empty, Out of Time". He's an energy expert writing about energy independence and climate change. Some of what he writes about appears elsewhere but he drills down (no pun intended) into some of the economics in an eye opening sort of way.

Paris and drilling?! That's almost too easy of a setup!

Me, too. Seriously, I have been a PCO since 2004 and what I hear and see would open eyes wide. There are spins and retruths and mistatement that you think would not stick, even with the Truth patrol, but it does.

My take is very simple. We the Voters need to take this whole thing a lot more seriously. Politic are a part of our every day and if you really think about it, every apathetic vote or a non vote can really impact your life.

I actually also run a meetup group that is slowly learning to see politics in this different way. But people are being told everything is fine. We know best. The Elections don't mean anything.

I recommend you Netflick a film UNCOUNTED: The New Math of American Elections. That film opened my eyes and showed this is a Bipartisan problem.

    What's a PCO?

A PCO is a Political Committee Officer for a section of the district. My area is 36 (meaning the 36th district) and my area of responsibility is 1808 (meaning condos, students, town houses and boats :-))

I agree with Richard - Paris obviously had help, and did not write any of that copy she delivered.

I also agree with David - The amount of untruths that are being basted on the American public is frightening. Frightening, because people actually believe it if they say it repetitively. People are too lazy unfortunately, to actually do a tiny bit of research and find out the facts - it has been a well known fact that Obama is not a Muslim - but if you asked the audience of the right, they still think he is.

On energy policy - I heard a great "Daily Show" clip form the radio, with clips of the experts saying that off shore drilling would not affect our gas prices for 2-4 years at minimum - and McCaine's sound bite was 2-3 months. Again, a large number of people believe that it will "fix" our pain now.
