Just surveying for interest.

At last count, I own 37 different kinds of adhesive, miles of ribbon, mounds of glitter, and a veritable forest of artsy paper.

Would you like to join me and a small group for an evening of business chatting and low-key crafting? On the order of your grandma's Ladies Aid Society, but fresher.

Leilia you are a genius. You have come up with a way to have the Biznik "art fest" after all but this shall be more fun. I have beads and assorted found treasures to add to the mix.

    Brilliant

I have had my hands on the keyboard so long, they will thank me for doing some knitting or crocheting again. I will be with you in spirit.

Ah Laura, if I was talented in those ways, we could cluck together, virtually ...

Elizabeth, I read this to mean, you're IN! :-) Beads, beads are GOOD.

I have 4 hats and 2 scarves to knit before the 10th of December and I just bought a new book that I would rather read. When are we meeting???????

Oh my. Your project list is long, Elizabeth. I don't know if there is enough caffeine in all of Seattle to help you succeed! But, if we get another Taker or two, how about Wednesday the 5th (already!). Magnolia?

My twin boys turn 13 on the 5th so that day won't work for me. Another day?

I'll bring my crocheting skills and supplies!!!! wahoo!

p.s. what if we did it the following week (after the 5th)?

Okay. Maybe we need to poke around and get a few additional interested parties to join in. Maybe I'm stressin' but it seems like, what with the casual crafting nature of this, we need a certain critical mass to make it a "real" Biznik event. I mean, I don't see much difference between networking over cocktails and networking over knitting needles & sequins ... but ...

    Thoughts?

No No! Let's just go for it! I think we are all feeling urgent about this, and it is also an idea that can grow and germinate as we meet. Personally, I'm not opposed to a set night every couple of weeks to get together and talk biz and craft. Here's my idea -- let's meet the week of the 10th (also much better for me, as I'll be travelling the week of the 3rd). Let's set a date, then come up with a business topic or topics to cover while we are crafting. We might get stereotypical for a few hours and discuss 'women in business' while we are crafting :), or we could talk about networking, marketing, or whatever other topic you guys feel is timely. Thats my idea -- what do y'all think? els

Hey Leila, I think this is a great idea. I, too, have a ton of yarn and haven't knitted a thing in over a year. Maybe Elizabeth can remind me how to cast on? I think once you post the event there will be a lot of interest, especially if it becomes a regular thing. I don't know about everyone else, but if I don't find an excuse to do something crafty, I never make time for it. Brilliant event theme Leila! B.

    Agreed!

Leila, I say go for it. If you build it, we will come! Plus, it will be fun to get together with "the girls" ... will this be at a public venue or private? I would volunteer my home for future events! We could each also bring a little snack and mixer to make cocktails with!

    Okay. Let's.

All of you who are interested please send me a personal message outlining your avails and unavails over the next two/three weeks and we'll pick a date.

For theme, one idea I've had is to bring our pressing topics and challenges to the table and then choose what to discuss.

And just by way of clarification, although the preponderance of stitchers and knitters are probably female and such gatherings have in our traditions been for women, I don't intend to exclude the men; dang, in my circles they're some of the craftiest! :-)

"Events" have been posted, pending approval. One gathering slated for Thursday, 12/6 and one for Wednesday, 12/12. Details will reveal themselves once the events have been approved. See you soon.

I'm interested in coming too! This sounds great. If it's a Biznik event, the holdup now is finding a public venue this could be held in.

Biznik Event guidelines dictate that events in the Biznik calendar be held in public venues or private offices, but no private residences.

The Groups feature (that we've been talking about for a year, I know - and is currently under development) will have an events tool for each group and those events need not follow any guidelines. That doesn't help us right now, but by January (I hope) you could create a "Stitch'n'Bitch" Biznik Group and post events/gatherings in the group's calendar.

    re: my availability

Thursday 12/6 is "First Thursday" and I'll most likely be opening my painting studio in Pioneer Square on that night with my studio-mates. So I'd have to miss that one.

Wed. 12/12 works for me after 9pm.

Lara and I have talked about this, and while the concept of this kind of gathering is fully supported, under current Biznik rules I may not host this at my home, not as an official Biznik event.

We certainly may gather "un"officially and do as we wish.

Because I am traveling a lot this month, I just don't have the resources (stamina) to host this event in a public place; I have only the energy to keep it simpler and do it in my home.

So. What say you? Someone else make this happen in December as an official Biznik event in a public place?

Or, come join me in my home, any of you interested Bizniks--but it's not a "Biznik" event?

Ultimately, I'd see this as a regularly scheduled Biznik event, complying with Biznik rules, and probably hosted by a series of hosts. But I can't put such a creature together until February.

Did anything ever come of this thread? I know Ada had to cancel the Knit & Network.

You know, something I'd love is not only to network but also to discuss materials. 37 kinds of adhesive Leila? Do they do different things?

what ever happened to this concept - I think its a mahvelous idea and whether or not we do it officially say at a local libary meeting room or unofficially at someone's home it would be great to make this at least a monthly thang!!
