Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Discussion group on GOD and business

There was a recent thread of "the Bible and YOur business" in the biz talk forum.

I decided to start a discussion group about business and god in business as a biznik event. It would be july 14th and to be honest, I don't know if it will be published but I think it has a good chance.

I am starting a thread to boost some interest in the event as well as get some opinions started about what people think of the role of "a higher power" in their business.

All opinions welcome. I like to hear all takes on this issue because I think every one is probably a little bit right, but that's me.

    Hello Sierra,

Will this group share a common interests [Biznik members that believe in a Higher Power networking together] or something else [Example: Bible study]?

Hey Sierra, it will be interesting to see the details on this Biznik event. Knowing this community, and the wide range of interest, both business and personally, I bet there will be a positive response.

And knowing you, and your passion, I'm sure it will be a great experience. Not sure if we would be able to make that date, but certainly will keep our eyes open!

    Sierra,

I think that the way you have framed this with the "higher power" sort of inclusive language, that not only will you not offend someone, this event has the potential for starting a community conversation that can only benefit and enrich us all.

Best of luck with this, Sierra. And if anyone can moderate a group with diverse opinions and ideas, it's you.

This is classically edgy stuff, Sierra, so it must be a perfect assignment from God herself, to inspire you to hold the space, and collect the date and interpret the results, all without being prejudiced or partial in any way...unless of coure God plays favorites who those that believe in her, then of course, you are off the hook! The assignment is noble...maybe a believer's section and a nonbeliever's section, and neither category would know about the other? Of course only God could pull off that a miracle! The eigth grader's class I attended liked this classic monkey question: Could God create a rock so big and heavy that God could not lift it? Andrew

    Hi Sierra,

I'd be interested in knowing the ultimate intention. Knowing this would allow for the support you may be seeking...

    OOOOOOO what great responses!

I LOOOVE how god just gets under people's skin

I don't have the intention AT ALL to offend anyone. I will make that VERY clean and clear right now.

My relationship to god is between me and "IT."

I have ABSOLUTELY no intention of trying to sway anyone to think the way I do.

with this event I actually WANT lots of different types to come

agnostics and atheists are VERY welcome, in fact..... I beg you to come! i want to hear ALL the perspectives!

I will just hold the space for these conversations to take place.

    Specifically for me:

(what am I getting out of it - for real...)

    1.fun

    1. new information and views

    2. I get to hear people talk about my favorite subject

    3. I get to moderate a group and be a facilitator.

    4. I'm stirring up the ideas for my new business and networking with people who might like to be future clients, current test clients and cool connections for guidance, business and friendship

    thanks for asking...

thanks for the plug andrew and judy and bob

andrey - for you I have this... this group has a sort of "experiemental" feel to it for me.. I have no idea what will come of it.

I can only assume it will be good because I feel really good about it and it seems like alot of fun to me. I don't know if there will be a spiritual networking group in the future.... sounds kind of churchy to me - if I want that - I'll go to the Center for Spiritual living and attend the Better Business Breakfast at 7 am the first wednesday of the month..

nope - I think spiritual networking might look alot like spiritual practice - private. or like a sangha or prayer group - privately assembled group of 3-7 people and all like minded and agreeing to support eachother on the business level with a spiritual twist. something bigger than that... I don't know - maybe. we shall see.

thanks for the questions. this rocks.

Wow Sierra, God and business, you know its going to come down to faith and what an individual is willing to accept as reality. Personally I don't believe that God engages in business other then through humanity. Of course that opinion just leaves a big door wide open for interpretation. Good luck and lets have some fun and education. Art T.

    Dear Sierra,

You seem to be onto something Hot!

Ten years ago my wife and I went to a life changing conference in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The title was "Business and Consciousness", held by the Message Company of Santa Fe (www.bizspirit.com). 400 Consultants and CEOs getting together to research how consciousness, i.e. spiritual consciousness, could be documented and researched and applied to corporations, ostensibly without using the quasi-offensive word, 'spiritual'. An avalanche of books and materials have ensued in this area since then, and spirituality and the values that comprise spirituality, are definitely leaking into the workplace in new and exciting ways. For example, is saving the planet a spiritual value? I think no one could argue the point! The CEO of Walmart just came out and said: "We went green as a PR move, now we see the money in it, and the need for it, and we are DEMANDING all our suppliers move toward green standards!" Is that not cool!

The most progresive corporations are all moving toward a kind of global resourcing that is easy to define as spiritual, i.e toward the common good of us all!

Will be glad to forward some more links if anyone wants them.

    Best,

    Andrew

interesting. I would be interested in finding out what the opinions are out there. The wal mart thing - if it's true - is a good sign of green stuff - or rather - faith in THE GREEEN MOVEment. that's what we'll call it in 30 years.

I'm all about awareness and having inspiration (in-spirit: in-spir-ation) in all areas of my life. Don't want a rote routine in any way: not in relationships, business, social networks, etc.

I like to talk about touchy subjects. I like to talk about things people don't always feel are comfortable to talk about.

In my business, it's very very important that I create space for my clients to feel welcome and totally accepted to BE WHO THEY ARE.

It is a situation where I choose to let go of saying and talking about what it important to me. It's a time where I don't get to just say my opinion because the sessions are not about me.

So in light of that... I want to talk about these debatable and touchy subjects - like God, spirit, beliefs, ethics, morals and values and how they differ and why.

It's juicy conversation. It has the potential for great breakthroughs and big ideas.

It's cataclysmic to have such conversations. They can shift your whole idea about reality when you hear someone else's take on a thing like god.

    yay!

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
