RE: The Happy Hour Meeting that was scheduled for next Wednesday (3/14/07) at 6 p.m.

The restaurant went out of business this week: so no go. Until we find another venue for meetings we're out of the meeting business.

Any questions? Email me.

Sorry to hear about that. Seems like there should be plenty of other spots in Everett that would be happy to have a bunch of thirsty Bizniks hanging out, don't you think?

There should be plenty, but we only need one for right now. I work on it.

Might I suggest Il Bistro Vino. It's at 1801 Hewitt Ave. Near the Everett Event Center. Nick, the owner is quite agreeable and he has one of the better vodka selections you'll find in the PNW.

When I spoke him about it in the past, he wanted us to agree to some kind of "terms" which I can't remember right now but were a dealbreaker for me at the time. I'll stop by there today and talk with him.

It's really bizarre to me how, once you get outside of Seattle, establishments in the suburbs (esp. Bellevue) seem to want payment or guaranteed minimum for hosting events. Downtown, most places I've approached are delighted to have our business, without any minimum. Maybe there are just fewer venues and they are already full of paying customers, whereas in urban Seattle there are so many venues that they are hungrier for business. I don't know. I'd suggest starting out by asking them what their slowest night is, and saying "how would you like a bunch of extra paying customers on that night? We'd love to have our event with you on that night, and you'll definitely get some extra business, but we can't agree to a minimum fee."

Dan - It's probably not any more complicated than that: there are fewer decent venues, and the decent ones are accustomed to terms they favor. The number is growing though, and what they will only come to realize with experience is that we are not high maintenance; in fact we're an asset in a lot of ways.

Since I've been the guy hosting we've been a little hampered by my scheduling and by my preferences. Though I think that Wednesdays is probably slow for most. (I want a place that has the feel of a Liberty or a Mona's, for example.)

Anyway, the Biznik bud is still just sprouting here. And spring is coming on:-)
