Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Face Up: Who's Done a Biznik Video?

Going through the pages of members is too time-consuming, so I'm wondering:

  1. Who has already produced and posted a Biznik online video?
  2. How many takes did it take to get it right and what were your biggest challenges?

Hoping to learn from you all before I make mine. From your responses, I'll know which member profiles to check.

I had fun using Photo Booth's background images to make mine. Took only about 6 takes because I wanted to keep it fun, goofy, natural and yet get key points across. What do you think of it? I've been surprised how few people have used it --I'm assuming this is either a)lack of know how, b)lack of equipment or c)shyness.

    Cheers, Leif

Leif: What a singing voice. And the beard looks great.

For me it is shyness. YES SHYNESS

    Leif,

I have seen your video and I absolutely loved it! In fact, I went around for three days humming that catchy little tune. Drove Bob crazy.

I think that this video thing is a great idea. In those few short seconds I could see more of your personality than a gazillion forum comments would have given me.

We have come up with six different ideas for our first video but haven't had the time to shoot it. (I love this kind of stuff.)

I don't know why more people haven't posted one. I told Bob maybe we are all waiting to see what others do first. Hoping to have at least one of ours up by the end of the month.

    Thanks for sharing, Leif.

Judy... I've done one. I hope it isn't too serious for the Biznik crowd. I will refine it over time. ...Howard

Howard. Your video is terrific, not too serious at all. Great smiley face.

I think your video shows you—the real you— Howard. Good job!

Videos are cool because they give us a better sense of who the person is. I'm hoping Bob and I can do as great a job of showing people who we really are.

Thanks Elizabeth and Judy, glad you liked my video --it was fun to do. I think its a little more goofy than I'd do for the general public, but for bizniks it seems like its juuuust right.

Howard, I think your video is great --from your opening winning smile, the detailed description of what you can do for people, and the ending leaning forward with "if you'd like some money" (I know you were probably just getting ready to click it off, but it was funny).

Yes, videos can give people a good sense of who you are. And since you're all wonderful people, thats a good thing.

I was coming here to post the very same thing!!! It is very time consuming to look at everyones profile and only have a few that have video.

I met Leif last night and he made a comment about making a video... so thats all I have been thinking about.

I have two ideas that I will throw his way and see if its doable.

Now I have no resources (meaning I have no clue/equipment to make a video with) and am wondering... what would be the cost of something like this???

Also does having a video increase sales? And where (other than your website/blog or here) would you post the video?

Edited to add: My video would not have me in it.. I was thinking more along the lines of a quick commercial type video 30 secs or so long?

I have a video posted with my profile. It does not have me in it but it is all about me.

    Rebecca,

We are making ours using our Apple computer (has a camera in it), but we may have to download some software. I'm sure there are a few bizniks who could help you out there. (I'm certainly not that tech-savvy!) For starters, go to the biznik FAQ's and there's a section on "How to Add a Video Profile."

Elizabeth, I'm going to check yours out! Thanks.

We are hoping to have our first one up (at least Bob's) by the end of the weekend.

Thanks for bringing it up, Judy! I made a video- but there are some bleeps, and I haven't yet put it up on my profile- but I'm looking forward to getting to it in the next week or so.

And I'm intending to check out Howard's and Leif's immediately. And yours- I'm assuming yours is there, too.

Leif- hilarious! I loved the singing bit.

And Howard- I enjoyed yours, too- definitely the highlight is: "If you want some money..." :) Great job.

Makes me want to clear my calendar and finish up the video I started...

SO funny that this just started getting talked about. I JUST filmed myself and put up my video last night. Crazy.

I'd be happy to hear your feedback about my video. I know I need to redo it because of several issues, but it would be really helpful to hear what you guys think could be improved.

Rachel... I loved your video because it gives me a real sense of what you do and what you offer. I have just been getting that sense over the past few months from our interactions at the live events we have shared, but your video does almost as good a job in1-2 minutes without us having to travel and spend the time we have each invested up to this point.

I'm not saying that the video totally replaces the benefits we have received from our live interactions, but the future potential of business networking using these new tools seems very intriguing to me.

As I continue to use and promote Biznik and Biz-Tools such as this, I will be using good examples like yours and promoting each of you that have become network partners with me in such a manner that far exceeds the "old fashioned" ways of networking. I feel that much more confident in referring you and your service to others now that I can point them to your video.

Elizabeth... Your video does give me a better sense of knowing you better, but I don't know if it would have without already having the experience of meeting you in person before. I think the viewing of it by someone who has never met you before will still have to invest more time with you to develop that desire to engage your services, whereas with Rachel's, I would be more apt to use her service sooner in the "getting to know you" process.

I'm making these comments because I hope we all keep in mind the real purpose of these videos is to introduce prospective networking partners to each other in our task of getting to "know, like, and trust" each other and to do biz with each other directly or by referring new contacts.

Within the first couple of days of posting my video, I was contacted by one person from another state that told me she wants to engage my services BECAUSE of the video. I feel like this new tool will become a great marketing advantage for all those that embrace it and use it.

BTW... Rebecca... you asked where else you might post your video; I plan on posting in as many places as I can learn about. I have made a different version and posted it on a new site I have created for the purpose of marketing my series of workshops that I am creating. The link is on my profile refering to my calendar. I'm open to comments from fellow bizniks on that version also.

I really look forward to seeing everyone's video and how this new feature evolves. I just wish we had some way of knowing when videos were updated, sort of like when our "needs" are updated. In the mean-time, maybe this thread willl do.

If some need help with getting a Profile, I'd be willing to help out a few times. I have the equipment. It's not the question of being professional videographer. It is all about having a good result that reveals something about you. I just posted the latest (really late) video event - but this is going is a slightly different direction.

    Read all about it.

    Rachel your video is terrific.

I will work up the nerve to put a video of myself up...one day.

Rachel, good job on the video -your calming presence comes through very well...and with the wind in the trees in the background...magic ;) Yes, I think you (we) could eventually do a slightly cleaner one, and it did seem a wee bit long for someone who is just checking you out for the first time...but for someone who is at the "I'm interested already" stage...it would be perfect.

Thanks so much for the positive feedback, gang. I admit, I expected to hear about what's not working (cause I'm my own work critic, right?), but you guys are making me feel like maybe it's not the most horrible, salesy, therapisty-looking thing after all.

I'm still open, too, to feedback on what isn't working.

    Rachel,

Just had a chance to take a look. If I were a potential patient, I would be reassured that it's not going to be a high-anxiety experience because in this video you exude tranquility. And somehow, I got the feeling that I can trust you with sensitive issues. That was all good.

    A couple of suggestions:

Length- While bizniks will cut you a little more slack (because we know you and love you!), the average user who stumbles on your profile has an attention span measured in seconds and is on the verge of clicking away. I would do a little editing until your USP, most important benefit, comes through, immediately.

Focus- It seems that your goal might be to open up a relationship or, at the very least, get someone to visit your website. This second one might be a good goal, since most people are going to want to know more about you. Putting myself in the shoes of the average viewer, I think I'd be impressed if I heard (in general terms, I know there's client confidentiality) some of the benefits. ("People who have visited me have seen, (or experienced...")

Other topics-If you are changing out your video frequently (that's the cool part about videos), maybe offer some free tips/advice (tips for finding a therapist/energy healer, for example.)

Your video made me feel calm, Rachel. It's just the way you are probably wanting your clients to feel.

Bob will have his video up by the end of the weekend. I'm still thinking about mine.

I haven't done a video profile yet. Honestly, I have no idea what to do.

Any suggestions from my Biznik family? :)

Maybe something where I debunk the myth of sustainability - that it doesn't just mean buying bamboo - and what it does mean?

A before and after shot for homes and maybe someone pulling their hair out trying to plan their event decor with a "is this you?" verbage?

I could stage my home drab, boring and without much furniture...then do an after shot...ooo maybe a fast forward clip of me decorating it.

OK - so I guess I DO have some ideas.
What do you think about them?

What would YOU want to see in a video about my work?

I haven't done one yet either but you all have "inspired" me!

I guess you could say we will all be seeing MORE of each other from now on, thanks to video technology. It's both exciting and scary at the same time.

    Amy,

I think that "setting the stage" (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) with a common client problem would be something you might explore. Something your typical customer can relate to, followed by how you have solved that problem, what you can do for them.

On your website, you have several excellent testimonials, so you might consider using one of them (one client had this problem and this is how I helped them sort of thing). Just some initial thoughts.

Marlene, I hear you! I'm not exactly an extrovert and the camera has never been my friend. We were discussing risk-taking on another forum thread and I guess that, for me, making a video is is in that category. It's great that this is such a supportive community. It makes it easier.

    Ooo, great idea!

I have a few clients that might work for that now. Maybe I"ll think about having my work filmed when I do their projects!

    Thanks :)

Okay, now that Judy started this, I figured I better get one up. Now I'm ready to hear the good, bad and ugly...

I will not admit how many takes it took me, and how many four letter words came out of my mouth in frustration. But, it was fun and although there may be an unwanted pause or two still in it, I decided to go for it.

The hardest part is being natural. I'm sitting there talking to a computer, trying to be myself, and not script anything.

So, check it out. I'm at your mercy!

Bob... Great job. I think you deserve a "10" from me. Now, once MariAnn and Bruno cast their votes, you'll be at the mercy of your internet fans to see if you can keep on dancing. I love your Biznik face by the way. Where can I get one? ...Howard
