Hey folks,

I see almost no Happy Hours in the Events calendar right now, and I'm hankering for some unstructured social time with my Biznik peeps.

So I'm thinking I should host my first Happy Hour!

I'm wondering, from those of you who've hosted such events many times, and from those who have attended many, what are some of your favorite happy hour venues?

I'd love a place with some decent space, sitting and standing room, tables and tasty nibbles, and not TOO much of a pain for parking.

Suggestions?

We're having a Happy Hour tomorrow night from 5 to 7pm at Barbara Jeans.

You're welcome to join us in Florida.... Last minute flight might be a tad pricey though and remember that we're starting at 2pm your time.

Well, in Florida, I knew where to go (at least in Gainesville, I did). :)

A fun little bar called The Top...which also changed its name about three times in the two years I lived there. They made a killer Midori Sour and somehow could keep an eye on thirty of us, ringing up individual tabs at will. Amazing cheeseburgers, too.

Uh-oh... I sense a Gator in the mix...

There's plenty of great places around here, but we're a good 2 hrs from Gainsville. 30 minutes north of the Jacksonville Airport and you've found a quiet little oceanside get-away

Indeedy. A Husky (UW), a Gator (UF) and a...um, tree-hugger? (Bastyr).

My experience of FL was that an hour or so from Gainesville in several directions would lead to a quiet little oceanside getaway. :)

I love Mona's near Green Lake. Everything about the place except finding it (and sometime parking) works great.

Any place where the music and acoustics don't overwhelm the conversation.

I hear ya, Rachel. I'd love to see some more casual social events in the calendar - they're super easy to host and your business does not have to be related to a business service (unlike the educational events.)

In terms of venues - we've had some great events at Mona's. I also like Vermillion - the art gallery with the bar in the back that Sierra Kennedy throws some successful Capitol Hill HH events at.

If you're hankering for a casual social event, come to the Cofounder's Happy Hour - Mixing Bizniks with Pleasure - next Tuesday 10/27 in Fremont (Seattle):

Rachel- If you would like to co-host, I would love to! I was going to host a happy hour then I got super busy.

Yes, I do love the unstructured ones. Mona's was a good one and it's up this way.

Also, there is a new restaurant, 4 spoons, in Greenwood. They said they would be interested in hosting happy hours. They aren't open at that hour so it would be by special arrangement. I really like the gal there. She and a colleague started their own place together and it's pretty darn good!

What part of town do you want to host an event? I've done a few at the Paragon on Queen Anne and they were pretty good. I was thinking about have a happy hour at the Nickerson Pub at the Fremont bridge. They have their own parking lot. Art T.

    Rachel,

The Vermillion on Capitol Hill (that Lara mentions here) has been a great location and setting for many Happy Hour events, and is just the type of place you describe. Sierra's ongoing Happy Networking Hour is a prime example. And the owners are very welcoming.

Thanks everyone for these great suggestions. I see Mona's is pretty popular, which I'd forgotten about.

Thanks for the offer to cohost, Amy. I may take you up on that!

Table 219 was home to a few successful happy hours.
