Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion How to Submit Articles to Increase Website Traffic

I've learned that it is critical to know HOW to post website articles, as it can dramatically increase website visibility and page ranking (PR). I could post articles:

1) on our website?
2) on our blog?
3) submit them to other sites with a PR of 4 or higher?
4) do all of the above?

What are your thoughts on submitting articles to sites like these to increase website page ranking and SEO? As "Directory Submission Services" claim to make this process easier, do you know if they actually work?

BTW, I hear EzineArticles.com is one of the best around. They have strict submission guidelines for articles and if you get listed on their PR 6 site, it's a very good thing.

Here are some more I just came across:

    Hi Jessie,

I have submitted to two sites so far (both accepted me):

    ezineArticles and smallbusinessbrief.com

We got bumps on traffic from both of them, and were Stumbled by smallbusinessbrief, after just one article.(Smallbusinessbrief listed us on their "favorite blogs" page.)

I plan on submitting more articles to both. I'm feeling my way along on this, so any information anyone else has will be greatly appreciated!

I've become interested in "Google Knol" although a little off topic you should look into it. I have two articles there.

I, too, am planning to write some articles on Google Knol.

I appreciate the other suggestions too. I'll be checking those out.

#1 and #2 are the same thing as far as search engines are concerned. There's no difference between the thing you call your "web site" and the thing you call your "blog." They're all just text that comes back when Google asks your web server for a url. You definitely want to pay attention to how your urls are structured, but that's not really connected to the blog/website distinction.

I wouldn't bother with the things you listed under "sites like these." Google is going to find you. You'll want to check your logs to make sure this is true, but Google's pretty good at what they do. The kinds of links you're going to get from directories aren't usually helpful for your page ranking.

Article submission works well for increasing your visibility. I have read though that it works best to submit to just a handful and not to every submission site you find because then somehow Google will penalize you for that.

I did submit an article to about 8 sites last weekend and I know that it was posted to at least four of them. We'll see what that does for me...

Also, I've read other information that the number of different articles you can get out there also helps not only with visibility but with credibility.

Here is a blog from a Virtual Assistant who specializes in article submission and has some great info on the topic: http://articlesthatsell.blogspot.com/

Well, I'm pleased to say that my article was accepted by Ezinearticles and posted today. I'll have to see what residual I get from that.

Jesse, I've been submitting the Ezinearticles.com for a couple years but I haven't submitted elsewhere, except one article here. I plan to submit elsewhere when I have time. I'll check out http://articlesthatsell.blogspot.com/. If anyone has other suggestions, I would appreciate that. It seem a bit of work to meet everyones format even after you write the article.

Jessie, yes I have. Search engine marketing has been a significant part of my business plan for a while. I show up well in Google searches when people are looking for a tax accountant (often 1st or 2nd). I also do pay per click. People often will not know which link they clicked to get to my site so I don't have great statistics. I just know its well worth the effort because they will likely be a client for a long time.
