Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion I dare you 2

One year from today I will have...

I dare you to state one semi-outrageous business related goal that you think there's at least somewhat of a chance of becoming a reality by this time next year. I think it would be fun to see what people say, and for us to come back to this thread one year from now (I'll put a reminder in iCal.)

...Take a risk, challenge yourself, dream it!

Earning a minimum of $6000 per month through freelance programming. Pretty higher by Indian standards but certainly achievable...

Ok this is a little surreal but there is a website in which you can write your future self an email now and then mark when you want it delivered to your inbox in the future. Maybe write yourself a congratulatory note for accomplishing all the things you will have accomplished by this time in 2008?? (http://www.futureme.org)

By the end of 2008, I am a local go-to source for green interior decor for businesses and events.

I am booked at least 3 months out in advance for projects and am living sustainably from my business income, including putting funds into my IRA and savings on a monthly basis.

I have been featured as up-and-coming in Seattle Woman magazine and Oprah is keeping her eye on me! By the end of 2009, I have been on Oprah or my product featured by her - or Martha Stewart!

By the end of 2008, I have either bought my first home or at least in the position to do so.

In my personal life, I am partnered with my supa fabulous life and love mate, and we are planning our future adventures together, as well as living blissfully in the present with each other!

I visit my parents monthly - or bi-monthly in Portland and have a client or two there as well.

Now, I'm on a roll! Thanks Leif - and everyone else! I wanna keep going!

You may think I'm not taking this seriously but.... my semi-achievable business goals for next year are:

I will stay single and thusly have way fewer reasons to distract myself from doing my work! :P

Hey they all sound great to me! Their are advantages to both short and simple goal lists as well as long and detailed ones. It'll be fun to check back with each other on this. I'm currently coaching someone through three personal goals and am experimenting with a website where she can keep track of goals and homework/quests that we come up with...seems to be helping so far, though I'd like to find or create a site that can do better. Cheers! I'm off for a final ski trip end-of-the-year fling in Brundage. Might check in, might not (: -Leif

In 2008, I plan to double my gross earnings from 2007, raise my rates 20%, and impose a minimum time requirement in Seattle.

So, if you've been thinking of using my services to set up your financial records in QuickBooks or learn how to use the software correctly, book me now.

And buy my first town home or condominium, visit my parents in Nice, (France) and possibly buy a MacBook Pro (laptop) since I can run both Windows and Mac at the same time (some of the programs I use are not available in the other's operating system) and I would like to have more desk space.

Sharing one's goal publically is a great way to stimulate commitment. Here's mine:

-Finish and publish my book on "Growing Through Adversity".

-Complete and conduct 100 "Barrier Breakers" seminars reaching 50,000 people.

-Hire and train someone to conduct my "Profit Forum" business development program.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm a HUGE advocate of goal setting. If you don't have certain goals you have set to achieve then what are you really working towards? I'm also big on strategy, so by setting goals it allows me to map out the steps needed to reach said goals.

Anyways, with that being said, within the next year I hope to increase my sales by a minimum of 50%.

Thanks for sharing Hillary. Have you, or anyone, read a book called "The Game of Work: how to enjoy work as much play" --it's a great one for actually getting quantitive about goals and work. His basic theory is this: what make games fun is that you know the rules, the score, what you're aiming for, etc. With work, we rarely know any of this...check out more on Amazon. -Leif

Latest student raised her reading level one full grade in just 12 Lessons! Cheers everyone! I just joined today and my first article was accepted! Onward to great things!!! Judy McNutt

Something weird is going on, I'm getting responses to this feed in my Google Reader...but they don't show up here (like a recent one from Dr Justin Favreau).

Anyway, cool to see people still posting --go Dreama, Nicole, Judy & Justin!

BTW Hilary, the book ended up being pretty disappointing.

Wow. My one year goal is to make $2,500 per week. I market my skills to teach nutrition to massage therapists and massage students; I offer group nutrition classes; and I offer massage instruction to new parents. My personal practice will become secondary.

My short-term goal is to prepare the curriculum for all of my teaching endeavors. This will be prepared and ready to market by August 1st, 2008.

    Thanks for the challenge!

One year from today I will have stopped taking clients and will be using my staggering copywriting and marketing knowledge for my own benefit instead of to make other people rich.

(Ok, maybe I'll take one or two clients when I feel like it.)
