Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion I have a question?

I was noting as I read through several longer article and comment streams that one of the things "sticking out" was there are dozens (hundreds, maybe thousands) of questions in the commentary that have never been answered.

I know there is a Q&A here, but would anyone else like to see a function to "ask a question" on a category so that niche professionals can answer it?

Perhaps the current area needs to be promoted more: with a link above the posting area saying "Have a question? - Ask here."

Sometimes I let questions go by without addressing them because I don't want to hijack the thread, while other times I answer them and try to trim them down to size without taking over the conversation. In either case, I feel like I'm doing an injustice to the question.

Thoughts and comments?

Interesting thought, Barry. I think this might be a nice feature. Would they then be organized in some fashion? (The Indie Biz Q&A is sometimes hard to keep up with/sort through.)

I, too, have seen interesting questions in comments that never really got answered.

Are you thinking maybe of something more like the Q&A section of linkedin?

Are you speaking of Q&A strictly in the Article section, or overall?

I'd love to see a simple, ask-a-quick-question arena. E.g., in my Q queue right now is, "How do I add a Twitter feed to my blog?" and, "Would Twitter posts on my blog be picked up by Google?"

I could Google for answers to those, but I bet several Bizniks know the answers.

I'd like there to then be a "This answered my question" feature, with props going to the person who addressed the query.

Isn't their already a section called Indi Q & A? Are you speaking of questions that come up when some one writes an article or are you speaking of questions that get posted to the community forum? I can say that if a question comes up that I have professional knowledge about I try to answer it. Maybe people don't feel qualified to answer some of those questions. Art T.

    I am just brainstorming here.

I think the focus would be encouraging Q&A out of the article threads into actual questions.

For instance, I write an article on "The Ten Fundamentals of Green Living" but someone asks "What type of houses are considered green?" in the commentary.

I'm thinking it would be good to have a "mark this comment as a question" or post a related comment/question in its own thread.

I have also noted that some of the articles have actually turned into Q&A threads. While this isn't a bad thing, it also is not an article (?)

Perhaps the Indie Q&A could be moved into a rating format where questions can be rated?

Hi Barry, Great point and yes, we have had discussions about this. In the future the current plan would be for all content on Biznik to have a simple rating system (thumbs up/thumbs down). And as for the Q/A section, it would likely offer the asker the opporunity to select the best answer (after a certain period of time, rather like Yahoo answers or LinkedIn's answers, etc.)

As for Qs that comment up in comments, that is an interesting point and your suggestion is a good one. I'll throw that back to D&L.

So, them if I read an article and then had a question regarding that article I would post my question with a question designation that would then send that question to another area of the post so others could comment on it? I can see how that would be helpful. Too many comments and questions get lost in long posts. Art T.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
