Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Looking for Green-based biz's for story

Hi Folks: I’m doing a feature for a local paper about “How the heck big is this Green Economy gonna get?” I’m looking to interview: 1. Puget Sound businesses in fast growing "green" areas... 2. Knowledgeable commentators about the fastest growing sectors, the economic pros and cons of greenness; and the costs of greenness to business (anecdotes welcome!). If you can recommend anyone (including yourself of course) do contact me or reply here please. Thanks so!

    Hi Shirley,

My company (Spoiled Rotten Baby) is in the early stages of developing an organic skincare line for Moms and babies, however, the person you should contact is:

Joe Kennedy - he's the owner of Eastside Business Newspaper. They are doing this huge 'green' promotion within their company, and also through a community green business challenge.

    His e-mail is:

    eastsidebusiness@gmail.com

    Good luck!

    Shirley,

My friend Heather (not a biznik member yet) has just started her business in a brand new field in the green business sector. Lots of folks are doing parts of what she is doing, but few are putting them together in such a holistic way.

    Here is her website: http://www.cohabitats.com/

    Hope this was helpful.

I think the green concept is even larger then people might realize. I know many of my peers are growing their businesses green. Working to foster an environment where green is the foundation rather then a marketing after thought.

As for us, we prefer to work with artists who recycle materials, our company uses flexcar, we publish on-demand to cut down on waste, try to keep our marketing online, buy what we can local, go out of our way to support local businesses, etc.

My sister and I were raised green so it is just a way of life, but we have been excited to see how many others in our generation now see a green business as the only kind to have. Hopefully it doesn't go away when the marketing angle fades.

EcoKind's focus is providing design and decor that is green whenever possible, which is a lot of the time, especially now-a-days.

I've love to talk more with you about what is going on here at EKD and what questions I can answer for you!

Feel free to email or call... ecokinddesign@gmail.com 206-818-9102

Shirley, I've recently partnered with a man in Portland to provide eco-friendly options to festivals and events for standard festival needs such as electrical and concessions. My partner is very well versed in all kinds of eco-friendly systems and works full time as a solar power installer. I've invited him to Biznik, but he's not accepted yet. You can find more info on my website, and if you'd like to speak with him (or me) more just let me know.

    Hi Folks;

THanks again for your help. I just discovered I can only send three emails a day...!! So I am not sure if I will be able to respond to everyone....including those who emailed me direct rather than posting here. So if you do not hear from me I apologize. But Giannina...could you email me direct again and put green clothing in the subject line?

thanks very much to all Shirley

You can easily remove that limitation by upgrading to Active membership for $10/month, Shirley. There are lots of other benefits, too. Here's a full list.

    Hi Shirley,

At Garden Mentors we are empowering gardeners to understand more about how their garden grows and how their work within it impacts not only their small garden environment but also the larger green factor of our planet. I'm seeing a significant rise in individual interest in going greener, getting rid of chemicals, improving soil, pruning properly and doing whatever it takes to be a better environmentalist in the home garden. Please contact me if you would like to discuss more or visit my website www.gardenmentors.com for more information.

Green is going big in the floral industry! Here at BiZi Bee Floral & Gifts we are striving to incorporate many Ecofriendly concepts.

    1. Buy local .. we are partnering with local vendors wherever possible.

    2. Utilize green products..for us that means using as much Veriflora certified ( which are fair trade and organic flowers grown to exacting standards) as we can get into our arrangements. In summertime we get lots of stuff direct from a local farmer. We also buy recycled vases and are about to experiment with a new type of cellulose container made from recycled cardboard (they look really cool!) which is also biodegradable.

    3. We are actively planning to acquire a Biodiesel delivery car

I just want to say thank you to our customers for supporting us in moving toward the future. Each dollar they spend with us is a vote that pushes our industry in the right direction.

Respectfully, Justin Baker BiZi Bee Floral & Gifts

I may be late in replying to this article-but as an interior designer, this issue is forefront with clients. In House Fine Interiors offers alot of green options when remodeling homes or even just reupholsering a chair or painting your home. I offer a "Green Paint" with no VOC I offer many choices of "Green" flooring, such as cork and bamboo. I offer a line of fabrics manufactured by Fabricut and Kravet. There are small and large things we all can do, thru good design and knowing your resources.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
