BTW: I find urbandictionary.com to be a good resource for such slang (and/or "new" terms):
Need help with Words!!
Hey Biznikkers,
I need your help finding words that would work for a touchy subject for us independent and small business owners. I want to write more about "how to keep yourself and your small business afloat through any rough sailing" but all the words associated with that sort of concept have subconscious negative associations. The result is that we just "don't want to think about those sort of things" and we don't!!
Please help me find some catchy phrase (short) or concept that I could use!! I need it for my new business and possibly for a book title. I have thought of using the word Ark somewhere in the name. Maybe LifeRaft but even there it sort of has negative connotations. (Plus there is a series of seminars for actors called LifeRaft.)
The sort of words used in the corporate world are things like Disaster Planning or Business Continuity. But don't those words just bring up a "Yuck" response in you? They do in me and I am a trained specialist in the field!!
I need to find words that will draw in Biznik members and other small business owners to think about and prepare for worst case scenarios. Our needs are very different from big business.
On a personal note I will add that I got caught unprepared to have my income stop due to a bad accident. All my training in business continuity had not prepared me for the additional risks we have as independent contractors and owners.
Please brainstorm away! I look forward to your input. Thanks.
Viv Ilo

Viv... Sorry if I took us off on a tangent. But your title of ".... with words" tempted me. But, isn't that what brainstorming is all about? ....Howard

Judy and Bob - I have started using that word too, I picked it up in a organization of creative professionals. The one I also like is Socialpreneur - one that has an intent to create change for betterment in their community.
I have a Socialpreneur blog waiting in the wings to make its entrance some day.

Funny. Norbert will probably not approve (smile), but I blogged about this a month ago or so. Diana Ransom wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal on the topic of niche enterpreneurs. The new terms (hers, not mine):
Solopreneur: a one-person business. Co-preneurs: owners of a two-person business, often a husband and wife. Sideline Entrepreneur: a moonlighter who is testing the waters with a side business. Travelpreneur/Adventurepreneur: the adventure-seeking entrepreneur. Socialpreneur: the owner of a nonprofit company looking to solve a social problem Ecopreneurs/Greenpreneurs: entrepreneurs who have turned their “green” causes into profits Mompreneur/Dadpreneur: a parent with young children and a home-based business Teenpreneur: a college or teen-aged entrepreneur Entrepreness/Fempreneur: a female entrepreneur who caters to the women’s market Serial Entrepreneur: a start-up “addict” who goes from one business to another
Not sure they will all take off but it was fun to think about. So, taking this thinking to its logical, but far-fetched end, a woman who is a one-person business, who has a child and works at home, and who creates environmentally-friendly products is a solo-mom-eco-social-preneur?

Here's a podcast of a SWSX panel discussion that I just posted at digg.com (might be good to listen to for some ideas):

Norbert... The podcast title intrigues me but I cannot find the link to the podcast itself from the link you gave. It just took me to an itinerary of the conference. Could you provide a more direct link to the podcast itself for dummies like me? Thanks. ...Howard

Norbert - I'd like that link too - no logo? I'm curious. I also saw a book at the bookstore called, "No Logo" interesting topic - and if relevant, important topic.

Oh, DRAT! :(
Here's the "corrected" link:
I also added the "correct" link to the digg.com page I linked to above -- so now you can also find the correct link there.
Thanks for alerting me to my mistake, Howard!

Not looking at what anyone else has to say, and only going with my gut...I would use words such as...
strength, values, life saver, relation...savers,
I think taking a negitive and making it a positive is key....when in doubt...turn it out...don't go with the flow...type of deal..dare to be different and go with your heart.
Doom and gloom is for the media not for us.
