Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Recommendations for Life Coach Training

I'm researching life coach training programs and would like to get testimonials and recommendations.

If you have completed a life coach training program, what organization did you work with? Were you satisfied with the training? Would you recommend it? If not, what program would you recommend instead?

Thanks in advance!

Lori

    Hi Lori,

My name is Margaret McCraw and I just read your inquiry about life coach training programs. I am the founder and President of Behavioral Healthcare Consulting and Training Institute.

Our Fast Track program enables qualified individuals to become certified as a Master Life Coach and Holistic Practitioner. BHC is accredited and approved by national and state licensing boards (psychology, social work and counselors) to give continuing education credits (CEUs). Below are six testimonials from recent graduates. Our approach is holistic and we use the law of attraction and cognitive behavior techniques to train our students.

Our fall program begins September 21st. You can go to our web site for more detailed information:

    www.behavioralhealthcareconsulting.com or call: 410.366-9111

See below for student testimonials. I wish you the best in your search. Feel free to contact me directly. I will be in the office this weekend.

    Margaret McCraw, Ph.D., MBA, LCSW-C 410.366.9111

Graduate: Katha Kissman Business Consultant & Certified Hypnotherapist Graduated Spring 2008

1.) Why did you decide to attend BHC's Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program?

My beloved husband died, I authored the book, Taming the Troublesome Board Member (BoardSource, 2006), and I became a hypnotherapist, all within the space of 18 months. These events propelled me on a wondrous, inner journey to gain some understanding of why things happen and why people (and I) act in certain ways. I discovered the historic and current writings about the Law of Attraction. I knew that there must be a methodology for incorporating the principles of the Law of Attraction into my work with groups and individuals and, as soon as I began thinking about my desire to find such a methodology, this program appeared!

    2) What was the best part of the program?

The program anchored many of my understandings in a real and practical way. I found the suggested techniques incredibly helpful. And, it was good to have dedicated time with others on the same quest to explore the Law of Attraction.

    3) What did you personally gain from the program?

Since working with the Law of Attraction, my attitude has changed in profound ways and my life has been enriched beyond measure. I now know that I have absolute control of my experiences and I have been delighted and joyful as evidence of this has manifested in my life. 4) What did you professionally gain from the program? Making new connections with like-minded individuals was extremely helpful. My classmates are an incredible addition to my network and I anticipate maintaining long-term relationships with each. Adding a Life Coach certification to my credentials allows me to attract clients that may have different needs than my nonprofit groups or hypnotherapy clients. In addition, it’s more than just adding another tool to my tool box – it is the umbrella perspective that enhances my effectiveness in working with others. Margaret is a gifted trainer and coach!

    5) What do you envision doing now that you are a certified life coach?

Because I already have a thriving practice, I see that using Life Coaching from the perspective of the Law of Attraction as a valuable and desirable compliment to my work with group and individual clients.

Graduate: Dr. Biko Sankofa Developmental Psychologist

"I plan to use this certification to consciously co-create the grandest vision of myself, the world, and all those who exist within."

    1. What is your background? My background is in Developmental Psychology. I’m interested in how culture influences attitudes and behaviors and how they relate to various forms of human behavioral expressions.

    2. Why did you decide to attend BHC’s Life Coach Certification Program? I’m fascinated with models that explain how we co-create our realities. The Law of Attraction is another example of how God shows us that we are powerful beyond measure. I desire to learn as well as teach these examples.

    3. What was the best part of the program? The program helped me in better understanding how the experiences we attract can show up in our lives in various ways. One’s lack of abundance may be shown in the inability to share one’s wealth as well as a smile.

    4. What did you gain from the experience? I gain a remembrance that at every moment of every day we can be mis-create and in so doing co-create a life and world that does not mirror our highest good.

    a) What did you personally gain from the program?

I personally met new friends who are interested in co-creating new possibilities for the future. I enjoy being around inspired minds.

    b) What did you professionally gain from the program?

Professionally I was able to network with like minded individuals

    1. How do you feel about Margaret as a trainer and coach?

Margaret knows her material extremely well. She is trained as a licensed psychotherapist and business consultant and has been practicing as both a life coach and executive coach for many years. She is dedicated to her mission to cultivate purposeful, passionate, joyous living. This is evident in her ability to convey very useful yet complex information in a manner that her participants can receive.

    1. What do you envision doing now that you are a certified life coach?

By design I’m a creative person. I plan to continue working with other conscious individuals to co-create opportunities for me to learn, as well as to teach others to consciously create the grandest vision for myself, the world, and all those who exist within.

Graduate: Jennifer Salaverri Psychotherapist Graduated Spring 2008

    1) Why did you decide to attend the Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification program?

I became interested in becoming a life coach after working as a therapist for a few years and noticing that many of my therapy clients could benefit from life coaching. I felt the Law of Attraction program offered a holistic approach to life coaching that would allow me to serve a broad client base. I also strongly embrace the ideology of Law of Attraction.

    2) What was the best part of the program? Learning more about how to apply the Law of Attraction to everyday life, for myself and for my clients. The interaction with the other helping professionals in the class who share my interest in life coaching was also an invaluable experience. We were able to learn from Margaret’s experience as a life coach, as well as learn from each other with our varying life and professional experiences.

    3) What did you personally gain from the program? I gained a much deeper understanding of how my desires and core beliefs truly reflect my reality. This training motivated me to be purposeful in moving through my life with a vision, setting positive intentions, and maintaining positive energy.

    4) What did you professionally gain from the program?

I learned how to transfer the beliefs of Law of Attraction to specific life coaching techniques to help clients achieve their goals. I left the program with the tools I need to start my own life coaching practice and that felt good! Additionally, I developed a network with the other professionals at the training, which I believe will serve all of us well as we move forward in our careers.

Graduate: Sarah B. Hansel, Ph.D. Clinical Psychologist and Metaphysical Minister Baltimore, MD Graduated Spring 2008

    1) Why did you decide to attend the Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program?

The Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program has opened many new vistas for my work. There is an emphasis on the client’s strengths and a genuine respect for the client’s potential to work out their own issues in a context of solid practices derived from cognitive therapy, positive psychology and a structure based on the Law of Attraction. This approach makes sense to client’s and they respond immediately to the uplifting focus. They complete the session feeling motivated and I know my work has been effective without having made a ‘diagnosis’ or relying on a third party payer.

    2) What was the best part of the program?

The Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program was delivered in a condensed format that I could fit in with my normal work schedule. The best part of the program was the exciting level of discussion in a small class with students who had already developed skills as health providers.

    3) What did you gain from the experience? I was personally thrilled and surprised that after years of giving lectures, doing clinical practice, and regular spiritual practice I still discovered things about myself in this program and feel I advanced as both a human being and a practitioner. I was able to start using my new skills immediately and look forward to developing my new ‘fun’ work for the next phase of my life.

Graduate: Jen Woolford Research Associate Graduated Spring 2008

    1) Why did you decide to attend the Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program?

Honestly, I did not know much about the Law of Attraction or Life Coaching when I signed up for this course, but I am always open to learning new things and meeting new people. Now that I have taken the course, I believe that I attracted the program into my life because it was exactly what I needed to improve my personal and professional life!

    2) What was the best part of the program? The best part of the program was learning specific ways to use the Law of Attraction to improve my own life as well as others' lives. I also felt blessed to meet so many wholesome, wise, and caring women.

    3) What did you personally gain from the program? I learned a lot about myself in this course, such as how to use my feelings to gauge my desires. I also learned to listen to my intuition, and how to foster this gift in myself and others.

    4) What did you professionally gain from the program?

Professionally, I learned so much! I found a profession that seemed worthwhile, fun, and lucrative. This course taught me that you can make a living doing work that you enjoy and believe in. I learned how to use the Law of Attraction to guide my clients and myself. I also learned valuable information about starting and maintaining my own business.

    5) What do you envision doing now that you are a certified life coach?

I plan to offer life coaching services at the private practice where I currently offer psychotherapy. I believe the life coaching certification is a great addition to my “tool box.” Within the next 5 years, I do plan to start my own business!

    Graduate: Rena Larkin, Management
    Graduated Spring 2008
    1) What is your background?

Currently I work in management for a local company and previously I worked as an addiction counselor and owner of a substance abuse treatment program for 10 years.

    2) Why did you decide to attend the Law of Attraction Life Coach Certification Program?

I love to empower others and to bring out the best in people. I believe in The Law of Attraction and I wanted to learn how to apply it and teach others to use it. I feel that there is a universal shift happening and it is important to have the necessary tools to create a sense of well-being.

    3) What was the best part of the program? I felt the best part of the program was the unity of the group and the open method that Margaret used to teach and guide us through the learning process. I was very impressed with Margaret McCraw, her knowledge, personal and professional experience and her belief and understanding of The Law of Attraction. This is more than a course. It is a program that develops cohesiveness among the students. It provided us the opportunity to align with our life purpose and to unite with like-minded thinkers and to share our ideas.

    4) What did you personally gain from the program?

I gained encouragement to live my dreams and to pursue my goal to coach and empower others to create their desires.

    5) What did you professionally gain from the program?

I learned how to create an action plan to be a life coach and holistic health practitioner. I also connected with other students from the program and through this experience I have a supportive network to live my dreams and to make a positive impact in the world.

    6) What do you envision doing now that you are a certified life coach?

I would very much like to bring this into the workplace and to help companies understand the importance of empowering their employees.

    Hi Lori,

As the past president of my chapter of the International Coach Federation, this is a question I have answered over 100 times! I completed my training over 7 years ago, and have been working as a coach full time for 9 years. (Yes, I began before finishing my training.)

I am a graduate of Coach U, and a trainer at International Coach Academy (icoachacademy.com).

Loved Coach U, but the vision and diversity at ICA is more "me" now. If I had known then what I know now, I probably would have chosen ICA.

    My suggestions:

    1. Go for an ICF accredited school to be sure you're getting the best education (see www.coachfederation.com for a list of accredited schools).

    2. Take at least one introductory class from every school you are seriously considering to make sure you feel a philosophical resonance or learning style match because personal "fit" will the most important aspect of your satisfaction.

    3. Talk to the coaches you admire in your chapter of the ICF (pugetsoundcoaches.org) to get first-hand impressions.

    Love life. ^_^

    Warmly, Ronnie

Hi Lori, I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) through CTI - www.thecoaches.com. I am also ACC through ICF. I started my coach training with ACT in Bellevue, WA (now InviteCHANGE) in 2000 but didn't complete it due to my job schedule and the program wasn't robust enough for me then. My coach is CTI trained and certified and encouraged me to go through their program because of its rigor. She was right! I started with CTI in April 2008 and completed the coursework and certification program in March 2009. I took my oral exam in April 2009 and became certified when I passed it that day. I was completely satisfied with CTI's program. It stretched me beyond my comfort zone and prepared me to deal with the client's full life. Its model is based on four cornerstones: 1. The agenda comes from the client 2. Coaching addresses the client's whole life 3. The client is naturally creative, resourceful and whole 4. The coach dances in the moment with the client. I would be happy to talk more with you about CTI's program!
