Hi Bizniks,

Has anyone relocated their business to another country?

I have an interview scheduled in Canada for a job in my day job profession and if I get it I will have to relocate Flaxmonger - or restart it.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Evelyn

Good luck with your interview and Flaxmonger and your possible relocation! I would love to try your products! I have not yet relocated my business but I plan to move to Canada in the future. All my research shows that you will have to get a separate work visa to also pursue your business — unless you get a skilled worker visa for your day job instead of being sponsored by your employer. Immigration Canada will be your best resource.

Yes! I lived and did my business in New Zealand. It was happily successful and then I moved top Portland so I could be closer to family ( my only child). I had to begin all over again and it is very different here compared to New Zealand. I am a dual citizen now so no problem there but when I first moved TO New Zealand I had a work permit for a job. I couldn't legally have a business until I obtained permanent residency but at that time no one really checked.

It was a huge re-adjustment both times but worth it for sure. I still have clients in New Zealand and have made an effort to keep my network there as strong as I can.

Thanks Karen, if they hire me it will be as a skilled worker. At least I'll have my foot in the door. I'll check out Immigration Canada.

Kaya, while I was doing research for Flaxmonger I made note of any information I came across on Canadian sources, suppliers and distributors. I'll have everything in place by the time I can legally have a business. And I'll keep the network I'm building now.

Evelyn .... having worked in Europe and reading your comments I think this is not a simple "move work" discussion...

If your day job goes to Cannada ... "that is one thing", and normally the "day job employer" takes care of any paperwork and expenses associated with that...

The question is ... where is your personal "Flaxmonger" business... if it is incorporated in the USA and that remains the same then that answers the question ... there may be tax implications on how you are compensated (if you are) for your time on that personal business

Lou, The day job will relocate me.

I want to restart Flaxmonger in Canada when I relocate. I wasn't happy with the quality of the flaxseeds I was able to get, or the finished product from my commercial kitchen. I think I'll have better luck there. I notice a lot of products of a similar nature that I purchase here are made in Ontario.
