I just got an awesome video created by Biznik's Mitch Mattraw. Posted it on my profile. I'm so happy to have a professional-looking vid. I tried doing my own once before and there's just no comparison.

I am happy to announce that I got a group, Circle of Healing off the ground and running. I made use of all the available websites to me at the time in advertising (given a modest budget), including the free ones. It wouldn't have worked without professional looking paid websites, but using all the possilibities increased ranking in search engines. Flexibility in scheduling the time and day seemed to be a key. I also requested a high level of commitment and time involvement, which I feel self-selected members truly ready for positive change.

This winter I pulled off a creative, attention getting, inspiring ad campaign for a client that was launched to Wall St audience in Bloomberg Markets, etc. Crazy hard work but awesome campaign. The banner ads outperformed industry averages, which is a big deal.
I also have to give credit to my amazing copywriting partner, Devin Griffiths, for being an equal player in the success of our ads. And without my production team, the banner ads wouldn't have happened.

I am so excited that this post has started up again. Nice plug of another Biznik Rachel and congrats on the video.
We need inspiring successes like yours Giannina to keep us inspired during this time of Economic Transition. Transition seems like a much more appropiate and motivating term than recession.

Thanks for sharing John. Your story shows how having an unusual spin, approach or niche specialty can boost exposure and business.

I've found that my being able to differentiate between fantasy and reality has contributed to my success. Yes, I realize that both experiences are relative, but I need to be able to practice a clear awareness of when I'm in my 'romantic child'. Innocence is a wonderful element in my emotional makeup, but when it can be a poor prism when it comes to finances. Also, I always have clients sit in the waiting room for a minute or so. Yes, it's to give me time to go over our notes from previous meetings, but it's also the opportunity for me to sit in 'prayer' for a moment, asking that my listening and actions to be in alignment with what's truly best for them. "Prayer" not as religion, but as a mindful practice that acknowledges there's a higher self...

Success: satisfactory completion of something, the gaining of wealth or fame; according to Webster. According to me, it isn't really defined as either one.
Success is a journey, a lifelong voyage which was never been about pursuing wealth or fame (though neither would be so bad, ha!)
My Belief? When I go home at night and evaluate whether or not it was a successful day, what I review is: What have I learned? Have I made a contribution? And ... did I laugh, play, work and learn some? For me, if I can answer yes, then it was a successful day indeed and I strive to make that my goal every day.
As far as singing my praises in shameless self promotion, what I know is this. I became self employed because I wanted to be free. Free to decide when to work or not, free to be available to my children when they needed me, free to go on vacation when I wanted, free to work with whom I wanted to, free to stay home and rest if I was sick and most of all, free to be, me.
I am self employed and free. To me, this is my resounding success and it significantly impacts my life in positive ways, every day.

Well said. There are a lot of ways to measure wealth. I am truly grateful for the freedom that self-employment gives me.

May has been a banner month for us. We did a shoot for a company out of DC that syndicates news segments to about half the TV stations in the U.S. We were on KING5 with that story, about greening kids' birthday parties. We did another KING5 segment on making meaningful gifts from items you'd normally toss. We just returned from New York where we spent a week in meetings laying the groundwork for some extremely exciting possibilities. Continuing to blog for HGTV, KIWI magazine and a bunch of others in addition to our own blogs. Collecting great sponsors for Green Halloween. Too much to say here, but we're continuing down a path that depends on many others to make it happen for us. We're extremely grateful!

Each month of 2009 has been better then the next and better than years past. I think part of the key to our success is not assuming we were going to suffer the affects of a down economy and kept going. The upside of a down economy is that it forces you to think out of the box on how to market your business. You HAVE to get creative which in the long run is a good thing.
Pretty excited. My small business www.puppymanners.com was choosen by Costco to be the business of the month at the Woodinville store. A great opportunity to display what we do inside Costco for a month! Does not get much better than that. :)

The Costco opportunity is AWESOME Becky. Congratulations!

Thanks! So funny. I see the business of the month bulltetine board and the businesses that display their info is so drap. They totally don't do ANYTHING to make it "pop" and the board can be easily missed by their customers. I personally had no idea they had a business of the month bulletine board. So I'm having fun with my flyers and coupons and other ideas to get people to stop and check us out.
Not sure I shared this but also this month a book came out by Sarah Gerdes, she's a wizard at marketing and well known. Her book is just out called "The Overlooked Expert" and I am one of 20 experts featured in the book. It's all about how individuals started their business and what they did to make it successful. I was honored! She interviewed I believe over 200 experts and choose 20 to feature in the book.

I so rarely go to Costco because I intensely dislike in-person shopping (and yes, I'm a woman), so I don't think I've ever seen the Business of the Month! But sounds like you definitely have the right idea. I know about Sarah. Congrats on the book mention too. That's just great!

I wish I did not like Costco so much! One is choosen to be the business of the month by how much you spend time and money there so I know what that means!

Wow the promotion and the contribution is fantastic here! Thanks for the inquiry Noreen! Congratulations to all on your success, keep it up!
This past week we www.kbwomen.com hosted a very successful Savvy Business Strategies Workshop a group of eager business women who are looking for simple strategies for growth. They got what they wanted and that felt fantastic!
Week before last I am excited to say that I signed an expansion contract that truly Rocks! Working with elected officials and their teams creating communication strategies and coaching them toward change. Woohoo! The process has been so successful, we are being invited into conversations around the country.
With all that is happening, I am also celebrating taking exquisite self-care and enjoying working in the sunshine!
Here's to our collective success! Tammy

I just updated a new video introduction for my real estate business. I spoke from my heart...totally unscripted! Yes! :)

That's a nice, authentic video, Suzette. Congrats!
And congrats to you, Noreen, for the new clients!
It's a good season for me, as well. I start to wonder if I get more clients in the summer because my energy picks up so much in the warm weather. Hmm. :) Either way, I'm very grateful!

I have a happy post of success. I hooked up with the Sandy, Or. Chamber of Commerce two months ago and am now the "New Members" Chairperson, and will be working with the Ambassadors of the Chamber. A huge win-win for the Chamber and my biz interest. I call on local biz folks to find Sponsors for my Welcome program and have a website dedicated to supporting the Mt. Hood communities, including Sandy. By becoming involved in the Chamber, I can network more effectively.
I advise anyone in a "sales" position to hook up with a community agency that has something in common with what you sell, or find an agency that you have a heart to help. While selling petfood, I joined the Humane Society; selling office supplies, I joined the American Red Cross located at Travis Air Force Base. I sold a lot of office supplies to heads of departments who were contracted to use the big guys, but would use me in a pinch (which was often). Success for me is helping others while helping my buisness grow.

While I haven't read every one of these uplifting posts, I would have to say that Lisa and Cheryl have summed it up best for me. I agree with Lisa that it all comes down to being "free" to be the person you want to be in life and I share Cheryl's philosophy about trying to help others as you grow your business.

Nice way to keep this thread going everyone. I am surprised that there are not more Bizniks taking advantage of the opportunity to promote themselves. I challenge Biznik members who haven't yet taken advantage of this blog to share an idea that helped you succeed in some way. It is a great way to help yourself and others.
This post has had 123 posts, let's make it 1234 posts!
I feel Biznik provides the opportunity for me to show a more personal down-to-earth side, that is appealing to clients.
Raphael, I have suspected that the sunshine is responsible for the increase in clients in the summer.
cheers!

I saw 2 New Clients last week. A new Circle of Healing group (http://www.CircleOfHealing.us) is starting on Wed. I have been increasing my presence in social media by starting a Twitter Blog: http://twitter.com/HealingToolKit. I keep it informative and inspirational. New clients are saying that they really appreciate phone calls and emails inquiring about their well-being and reminding them to take care of themselves by getting enough support, including scheduling counseling appointments. Research has shown that clients with depression show increased rate of improvement when counselors call in between sessions.
What's is working for you?
