Me, too - I was glad it wasn't taken and snapped it right up! :)
Twitter / Pownce Names?
Sorry if this has been brought up before (search forums!?), but if you have a twitter or pownce name, reply here so we can get some hyper-blogging / group-consciousness going on between bizniks.
To add me: My Twitter name is leifhansen My Pownce name is SparkGuy (though I haven't really used it much yet...still waiting to see how things pan out.)

ok - all set my twitter name is "AmandaMaxHannah"
now what?

Posted by Valerie Farris, Seattle, Washington | Sep 08, 2008
Weird - I can't find you Amanda. And, oops, I just accidentally send a Twitter "invitation" to your Biznik e-mail address...sorry!

OK I agree with Amanda, now what? and Why? I have been on Twitter for awhile and have not found a use.
With MySpace and Facebook for my kids, and Pulse and Linked In and Biznik I just don't know if all of my old colleagues and friends need another invitation from me.
But someone tell me what Twitter has dome for them.

Hi, Mike,
I so far haven't found a solid business reason for using Twitter, but I know many others who have. For example, Peter Shankman of Help a Reporter Out Tweets real-time media requests for information, experts, etc. Others use it to generate "buzz" in their network about events or specials offered by their companies.
I can certainly understand how you might question its usefulness, especially when you look at the sheer number of "social networking" sites and offerings out there. I guess you'll just have to try it out and see if it's a good fit for you. Kind of like blogging, only on a miniature scale.
Best,
Valerie

WAIT! I gave you the wrong name.
My Twitter name is"
solomarketer
I haven't been on long, but I'm starting to think about ways to use it. I think:
It puts a personal face on your business. (What you're up to at any given time).
Announcing new blog posts.
I'm not following very many people yet, but it's giving me great insight into what their work day is like, what problems they face.
And all in 140 characters or less!
I'm sure there are more applications. I'm kind of new to this.

Thanks for pointing out Amanda that my twitter account has changed to LeifHansen.
I'm making a general shift to try and change almost all my various online accounts to my full name --less confusing and better branding. Of course "Joe Smith" might have a trickier time with this approach ;)

My Twitter name is kayasinger I am just trying it all out but I have been told that the key is to get a small group of people who you are following and they are following you.
So- please add me to your list and I'll do the same. Maybe we can make it work.
Sparkypants ( David) put his blog link on Twitter and as a result I went there and made a comment. I have never been to his blog so that worked! I think this is the key. I will hope to see some of you add your name to my list. Kaya

Hi again I cannot figure out how to add anyone to Twitter unless I have your e-mail address. I found Leifs, Amanda's and Judy's and added you all and I think that only means I am following you. You have to do the same with me in order to follow me ( which of course you will want to do!) I welcome all of you into this experiment with me and we can find out if it actually well help our businesses! My e-mail is kaya@kayasinger.com
Leif- if I have this all wrong - Please explain!! Thanks. I appreciate this discussion a lot.
ps. didn't mean to leave anyone out.. I welcome you all on my list.

Leif Your Wonderosity link doesn't work and Twitter doesn't recognize it. I am fairly certain this is a user error - namely me!

Hi Kaya, as my last post mentioned (before yours) I've changed my user name to LeifHansen (from wonderosity) --this post was actually started over a year ago (see how ahead of the game I am? ;)

Haven't found the niche in twitter and so haven't done a whole lot with it yet but I'm learning. I like the suggestions above to post a link to blog updates, thanks!

I love the name of your band Tiffany (and thus twitter name). I'm following my innergypsy this week on a spontaneous adventure in Banff, and I'm not following innergypsy twitterer as well ;)

Leif
A year ago I never even heard of Twitter!! Thanks for keeping this all alive.
I always encourage people to not get side-tracked by spending hours doing inane chatter on these sites. I think the key is to develop a strategy for helping your business. I would love to hear step by step plan for that.
For instance it seems like Twitter is mainly useful if you have potential clients and/or strategic partners following you. So one question is how to instigate that.

Perhaps because I'm only following a few people or organizations, Twitter is still positive without being too distracting or time-sucking.
Using Twitkit, a Firefox browser add-on, I keep a sidebar open (so I'm not involving an entirely separate application or regularly clicking back and forth on browser tabs).
Also using TwitterBar, to easily see all 140 characters as I type right into my browser's URL bar.
Getting a heads-up as about a relevant blog post is a good use of Twitter, but I've stopped following people who do it too many times per day. Frequency of posts – in and out – is important, or at least should be a major consideration.
I second the earlier mention of Twitter Search!
Spontaneous wisdom or inspiration (in whatever form) is what I'd really like to receive, and hopefully share.

Bruce! You got a real photo up. I like it!
I suspect that I will be active, but not one of those six times a day people.
I like the fact that at any moment some sweet little gem (or inspiration, as Bruce puts it) might come my way and brighten my day, or solve a problem.

I have several Twitter accounts. My main business one is http://twitter.com/123socialmedia.
I also just collected a series of "How to Use Twitter for Business" articles and wrote 101 Business Twitter Ideas, Tactics, and Strategies that has 12 different articles regarding Twitter.

What and why would you have so many twitter accounts. I think it would drive me nuts@
I suspect I am not getting the concept totally as I am used to communicating with a group that is defined. In Twitter some people I am following are not following me so they don't see my communication but I see theirs. If I respond it has to be directly to them and I think- if they had wanted my response they would be following me.
Likewise I have people following me that I am not following - different concept.
I'll read your article.

Kaya,
That's not entirely accurate. People follow those who they think have an interesting tweet time line or for other reasons. If you tweet interesting, informative things you will be followed, but it may not be by everyone you follow.
When you start a tweet with @twittername, that person will see your tweet regardless of whether she follows you.
If you click on someone's name, you can view their prior tweets and their followers. You can also use http://www.summize.com to see all tweets about you ... and anyone else.
Twitter makes sense as you use it. Let its logic, or lack thereof, come to you. :)
Hope this helps.
Warmly, Judith

Thanks Judith
I knew I was missing the concept in some ways. I guess I need to "tweek" my brain!

My still-can't-figure-out-why-I'd-want-to-use-Twitter profile is http://twitter.com/biznik. I'm attending the Introducing Twitter workshop hosted by Wayne Bishop and Mark McLaren this evening, so perhaps I will have an ah-ha moment tonight and there will be something worth following on that address by tomorrow :-)

Biznik member Ilise Benun, who was one of the speakers we invited to BizJam earlier this year, wrote an interesting article that was published in Business Week today about her experience with Twitter as a business tool. Her view: Twitter Distracts and Annoys. "Not all Web 2.0 applications are advances. Twitter encourages self-absorption and rude behavior in business settings."

I read that article from a link on her blog, Dan. You know, she makes some valid points.
I think that like anything else, a new tool of technology can be overused and used inappropriately. And technology, if we don't manage it, can push us apart rather than bring us together.
I still need to figure out how to balance it. I'll be interested in hearing more from you after your "twitter event."
This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
