Judy - I posted an article yesterday on Twitter - I didn't realize this thread was here - Everyone's all a Twitter…
You can find me st: WhiplashDesign
Wow - so many people to go through and add as friends.
Thanks Leif !
Sorry if this has been brought up before (search forums!?), but if you have a twitter or pownce name, reply here so we can get some hyper-blogging / group-consciousness going on between bizniks.
To add me: My Twitter name is leifhansen My Pownce name is SparkGuy (though I haven't really used it much yet...still waiting to see how things pan out.)

(Still trying to figure out the link formatting on Biznik.)
Thanks Leif!
No problem folks --funny as this is a pretty old thread, but its been great to see it recycle. If I were to start one now, it would be "What's your friendfeed account name" as I think that (unless twitter beefs up its abilities) friendfeed or a more robust lifestream app than Twitter, will take its place. However, it will be hard to catch up to Twitter's recent press.
I just created a friendfeed account, too. wmecole
Thanks, once again, Leif!

Not on pownce. I can't take too much social media.
I just joined Twitter to try it out - my name is dbltall. I can't see myself leaving it on ALL the time though - I think I will just look at once or twice a day.

Only recently to TWITTER myself. You'll find me: David2BXACT
I really haven't explored the possibilities of it yet as I'm buried under the day-to-day of it all. But will invite you all after reading this thread!
Just wanted to note that I just recently registered pownce.biz (for powncing on business ;) -- in case anyone might be interested in developing a microblogging site, I think that might be one avenue that I would consider (and I'm also open to other suggestions)....
mine is: banuseattle
I am so confused...all of the new technology.....can somepne please enlighten me or direct me toward enlightenment? I recently learned about twitter.....what is pownce? Thanks!
Hi Debra, Yes, it can be confusing. Let me dump a few thoughts that may help though...
Twitter is the current media darling (and perhaps the earliest) of a number of services people refer to as 'microblogs' or 'lifestreaming' applications, or 'status updates', etc. I think the term 'life-stream' is a good metaphor for what is happening in general.
Pownce, Jaiku, Utterli, Friendfeed and many more services out there do similar things --allow people to share quick bits of information both to a public stream and to friends who are subscribed. You in turn can peek at the public stream of information, or at those who you are following.
The difference with Pownce? You can share more than just text and links (other media, events, etc.)
The difference with FriendFeed? You can pull other 'streams' (technically RSS feeds) of information into your stream (your blog's feed, your pictures from flickr, your youtube account, and yes, even your twitter stream).
Here's an easy way for folks to catch the drift:
Almost everything that can be digitized into text, audio, pictures and video (and...?) will eventually be.
The trend is towards transparency, radical self-disclosure
Technologies are making it easier and easier to share stuff with the world.
(Just came back and noticed my comment somehow was gobbled up. Well, whatever I said, it must have been earth shattering!)
I am so confused about where to go to get enlightened about how to use all of these new technological things......one day it is twitters and now pownce.....is there anyplace I can get a summmary to have some light shed? Much thanks!
Debra
I was just where you are now last month and was just as overwhelmed. I needed someone to talk to me in non-techie language. Leif's sentence above, 'The trend is towards transparency, radical self-disclosure" is an example of what made me crazy. I read that and went, "What?" I do get it now but I am slow at it. I suggest you do Twitter and follow a few people and see what happens. At first I followed the wrong people and all I heard was nonsense chatter. Now I can see that if I follow people I want to learn from, intermixed with the chatter are bits of interest and wisdom and the self- disclosure that Leif mentioned. I am still not totally sure if that has a value.
I have learned about the forum feature of FriendFeed. It is called "room" and you can invite a group to join and have a discussion forum. This could excellent for members of a class or seminar for instance. People can go into that room and chat and leave messages for each other. I can see that e-mail will be obsolete soon so people like you and I have to learn all this! My Twitter name is kayasinger in case you want to connect with me there. I also wrote my own fun article on all this recently.
Leif and Kaya,
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond...and for writing in plain englich for a non-tech type like myself! I do have another question that came up from reading this....how do you know who to follow? I only had a couple of my corrspondents show up when I joined twitter.....Kaya, I will also read your article! Thank you both again...this info was extremely enlightening!
Debra
I have chosen people to follow who I think I might learn something from or I am interested in what they are doing. You can unfollow at any time if you choose. I suggest you just go for it and see what happens.
Thanks Kaya! I think I will start by following you!
Hi Debra,
That's a great question. You can use various approaches in deciding who to follow. For instance, I follow friends; then thought leaders and opinion shapers in my niche -- personal finance.
I'm interested in Internet Marketing, so I follow quite a few IMers and Affiliate Marketers. My target market is women business owners so I follow leaders there. I follow some members of associations I belong ... and members of online communities, like Biznikers.
You can also click on any person's name and see their list of followers. Follow anyone who interests you. I look at potential followers' list of past tweets -- if they are informative, interesting, or funny I may follow them. You can also click on the public feed (labeled Everyone) and see what tweets come through. Some are fun.
Your list of followers will grow over time so don't feel pressure to add, or to be added. The thing about Twitter is you never know why strangers add you. I tweet infrequently. I think I'm added because of the hat. :)
Yes, you can unfollow anyone you decide to. Just click on their name to do it. Twitter doesn't send out unfollow emails so it's private. I unfollow people who tweet too much about too little. :)
Have fun with it my friend. Hope this helps.
Warmly, Judith
Very useful advice Judith! So much to learn...........and you have been an amazing resource for me! Bless you!
