Twitter / Pownce Names?
Sorry if this has been brought up before (search forums!?), but if you have a twitter or pownce name, reply here so we can get some hyper-blogging / group-consciousness going on between bizniks.
To add me: My Twitter name is leifhansen My Pownce name is SparkGuy (though I haven't really used it much yet...still waiting to see how things pan out.)

There are lots of twitter tools. Here's a new one that you may find useful.
TweetBeep is like Google Alerts for Twitter! Put in a keyword or website, and get emails when others tweet it! http://tweetbeep.com/

Also, I noticed that some of you struggle with social media and understanding its place in your marketing efforts and customer development strategies...I am a social media strategist and part of my mission is to help companies tie their mission to the most effective social media applications.
I spend a ridiculous amount of time testing out new sites and learning their value (if any). If you are interested, please message me...
Thanks...and don't give up! nearly 40% of my non social media customers (business coaching) come from Twitter!

I enjoyed your blog and I attempted to download Tweetdeck. I had the same problem as when I tried to download Twirl. It says to download Adobe Air first and I cannot seem to download Adobe Air onto my MacBook. Not sure why. I have written to Adobe help and received a non-response, response. Useless. Anyone have any ideas?

Kaya, both Twirl and TweetDeck are AIR clients...try downloading AIR here: http://get.adobe.com/air/otherversions/ . I have an HP, so I am a bit out of my league!
Jeff, Go to http://search.twitter.com/ to search for people who are talking about things that might interest you and add them as friends...then talk to them! You can also do a people search in Twitter (look in upper right hand corner), though I think this is a bit more difficult and probably unnecessary...
good luck!

I appreciate your help. I have already been to that Adobe site and when I click on the Air icon nothing happens - it doesn't want to work for some reason. Very frustrating.

I still haven't figured out the benefits of twitter yet. I've read some of the biznik articles regarding twitter...but still don't see how creating a following translates to new business?

Phil
It already has worked for me. This is how it happened. I was following someone, and that person offered a link to good blog article. I clicked and went on this new person's blog. I really liked it so I wrote a comment and mentioned how I ended up there. Within 15 minutes she was following me. After a few days of Tweets she went on my website and signed up for my newsletter and she bought one of my e-books. Possibly it depends on the kind of business you have but I think it could work for you too.

First - My Twitter handle is WhiplashDesign
Second - Phil, you really never know exactly how Twitter and a following is going to help your business. However, the main aspect with Twitter for business is to lay a foundation to a new audience, of you being the expert in your field.
I have a ton followers and don't know why they follow me, but I have begun to try and understand that.
It works for your main "network" too - your spheres of influence, or the network that you work with daily. For instance, (though more personal, but I am helping her in a business) my sister launched her Etsy store, her first venture as an entrepreneur. Every once in a while I'll Twitter about it.
That goes to my followers, and if re-tweeted, it has a ripple affect. My followers expose their followers to it, and so on.
It is also great for your web site, driving traffic just the way you want to do it, you have the control. Are you planning on hosting a workshop to help homeowners figure out their next step in this financial crisis we are in? Boom! Twitter it and you'll surely get people signing up.
I will say that Real estate is going to be pretty exciting to see how Twitter works for you and others in your field.
