Last year as part of emigrating to the US from the UK, I took a m/cycle ride acrosscountry starting in Atlanta. 10,018 miles of circuitous riding later (only 22miles on Interstate)I'd appreciated that I'd chosen to avoid chain restaurants and accommodation and to sample unique-unchained-services instead. Some were okay, others were aweful and a few were exceptionally good, but and here's the key to enjoyment...none were bland.

I'm putting a website together, www.unchainedworld.com where recommendations for other unchaineds can be made by you. I'll add mapping and gps so you'll be able to plan unchained routes of your own, so what I need are your recommendations@unchainedworld.com

It's global, so remember holiday locations count too and a recommendation can be for a single aspect of a service, so a fluffy soft bathtowel is just as worthy of recommendation as a full suite, a flaky buttery biscuit is equal to an a la carte banquet.

Help banish the bland, become unchained. Thanks.

Cool project! As a Harley owner/rider myself I know nothing beats getting on the bike and taking off... I will try to think of destinations past and email them to you.

You should hook-up with my brother Daryl Hurd here on Biznik. He organizes biker-events.com, and all his buddies run around the country visiting every strange place they can find with a happy GPS blazing the way.

I'd be happy to have links to as many ride/travel sites as possible. On a personal point, it's good to see a central bike events site.

I'm planning a US ride for later this year to Yellowstone and Glacier, but to add a twist, I'm thinking "Unchained and additive free".

    Rebecca,

I always thought Harleys were pointless examples of conspicuous wealth in the UK. It wasn't until riding down a road in Oklahoma that said "next turn 160 miles" followed by "next turn 165 miles" just as I took the turn, that I realised that do make sense over here.

Enjoy your riding and thanks for the support.

The pic is my bike parked up in the middle of White Sands NM by the way. The unchained across the USA ride's pics are at www.roughguidesintouch.com/lamble

Ignore the spelling, it got progressively worse as the ride went on and fatigue grew. The same excuse can't be used for missing out "they" in the message to Rebecca however. That's just sloppy work and I'm sorry.

While Harleys are a bit on the expensive side nothing makes my heart go pitterpatter than the potato-potato!

We were in the Harley shop this weekend and d*mn if there wasnt an awesome custom one in there....fat back tire and all.... I just couldnt come up with a good enough excuse to talk hubby into spending $30,000.00 :-P

I saw a WA riding instructor throwing a fully dressed HD around a tight figure of eight on Sunday. Very impressive.

Are there other riders out there, or anyone with knowledge of the toursim industry that might be able to help acquire a list of unchaineds. Here are some examples: http://www.piesbypost.co.uk/

The shopis just by the car park along the seafront. The haggis, neep & tattie pie is a great hangover cure too.

HondaRider_This is a great idea. I'm trying to compile a mental list of noteworthy places in my area.

The "Miss Adams Diner" on Park St. (Rt. 8) in Adams, MA offers a dozen different burgers and a mountain of sweet potatoe fries in the classic Rail Car Diner format.

From what I hear, Bob's Country Kitchen on Rt.7 in Lanesboro, MA offers the best strawberry shortcake in the county...foot long hot dogs are pretty good too.

The North Coast Brewing Company on 455 North Main Street in Fort Bragg CA makes the best New England Clam Chowder I've ever tasted.

The State Line in El Paso, Texas on the New Mexico/Texas line offers Cajun shrimp and all you can eat ribs.

    Any you can add?

Nearer to home, the Tulips are in bloom and the sun had dained to make an appearance, so out came the motorcycle (I'm a fickle rider, I'll only endure rain if it's an epic ride and a 120 mile round trip to La Conner isn't epic by any standard).

Still, we saw the snow geese in the abundance we'd been promised previously, when we'd driven up last time and saw two bald eagles making eagle eggs on the wing (It might have been a squabble, but I'm a softy at heart) and n'ere a beak or feather of a snow goose, so that was a good start. The tulips were glorious, although I prefer them from afar, where they just look like incongruous slashes of colour, rather than close up, where they look like small sqwaulling, ashen children being dropped amongst the colour and photographed by doting parents so that they look washed out, or, sullen teenagers who'd rather be anywhere with a gadget based instant gratification device in their hands, than with Grandad and Nan because, "iIsn't it's nice to get out and have a walk".Now take your hood off and pull your pants up, the crotch is dragging in the mud".

    Anyway, Indian Fried Bread.

Legends on La Conner High Street. Indian Fried Bread with alder plank smoked salmon, as a taco. Out on the rear decking, sun still giving of its best, iced tea and a soaring bald eagle. An unchained gem, even if the old dear serving needs to be told everything twice, which sort of adds to the amateurish charm (amateurish in the sense of being run by enthusiasts, rather than in a not very good sense). Indian Fried Bread as a dessert too, honey and raspberry sugar. Lighter than a doughnut, but I'm sure equally as unhealthy which is a good thing. If lettuce tasted as naughtily flavoursome, then I'd have started dieting ages ago.

There are other salmon and oyster dishes on the menu, however I need another reason to visit, so they can wait.

10 glorious unchained days in Spain. Stewed bull's tail, 'goat leg to the oven', Bacon of Heaven (a dessert), Argentine Pie, Creme Catalan (like creme brulee only in a bucket sized dish) rabbit and snail paella, and that was for breakfast!

Now back in the USA and looking forward to some solid unchained progress here over the nexy few months.
