Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion Using Technology to Fundraise for Non-Profits

I'm curious about 2 things - 1. Do you volunteer for a Non-Profit as part of your business calendar, and 2. Which methods do you use to help fundraise? Is there a tech element or is the old fashioned way better? Success stories?

Twitterfeed and Social Actions have a Mashup, that allows you to Twitter about your causes. In their words, "By signing up here, you can automatically share ways to take action from 24 social action platforms for the cause you care most about - like climate change or poverty."

I've been Tweeting about donations to Q Center- a community center's new home. I have volunteered my time on their web and print graphic design needs. With this, I created a button that people can put on their web site or blog, an idea that has proved very useful and interactive.

Anyone else donate time and/or use technology to further their cause?

We are old fasioned up in this part of the world. We have found some fun and entertaining fund raising ideas. We run a bingo game every Tuesday night and for about 10.00 people can have 3 hours of entertainment and sometimes they win some cash.

A great raffle type was to get prize donations and have people drop a ticket in a box or bag for each prize. If there are ten prizes you can by 10 tickets one for each prize or you can put all 10 in the one you like most to increase your odds on that one prize. Tickets can be sold at 1.00 ea or 6 for 5.00 or 15 for 10.00. So there are a couple of fund raising ideas. We do belong to KIWANIS which is a service club and that is our non profit focus for now. We like that club over some of the others simply because they focus on children and on local communities.

I am aiming to do more with Just Cause

And yes, I volunteer, currently writing grant applications for Heron Habitat Helpers for which I spend hours on Internet research.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. Leila - your link gave me a downloaded page I can't open.

I have enjoyed helping existing non-profits and helping to found new ones. The Ellensburg Film Festival which begins tonight is one organization that I helped to found. Check it out at www.ellensburgfilmfestival.com. There are many free events and it is very, very affordable.

I am also searching for ways to connect technology with social needs. Thanks for asking the question and thanks to those who answered. As a recruiter and fundraiser for two different non profits, I am finding with the recent downturn in the economy that people are pulling back with time and resources. My thought is.... the best way to live thru a struggle is to help relieve the struggles of others.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
