How can you use it to grab people's attention with so much else out there without being obnoxious or pushy?

- is there a decent ROI?
- do I spend a little time on a lot of sites or a lot of time on a few?
- can you really have a good relationship on linkedin with other business connections and then tie that to biznik, twitter, facebook, myspace, etc?
- will I be able to recognize actual dollars that came as a result of social media sites or even craigs list type sites?
- how do I utilize my usp's (Unique Selling Points) to differentiate us from the masses?

How do I create an intelligent social marketing plan? I agree with Jim's questions above. I have had a return but it is hard to measure this soon. How to decide which sites and how much.

These are really great! Keep them coming ...
Quantifying the ROI in the social networking world is a very interesting topic ... one I find fairly difficult to nail down to a science. Mostly because it is hard to count the hours spent, figuring in my hourly rate, and then over a long period of time reflect on how many of the relationships built online turned into actual business ... etc.
Anyway, back to the main focus: are there other specifics about the web you wish you knew? more along the lines of things you could learn via tutorials ... how-tos,?

I think Jim's questions are excellent. My main concern is typically about how much time should be spent on social media. It's easy to spend most of the day updating twitter, posting stuff on Facebook and myspace, discussing things on Biznik, looking for connections on LinkedIn, etc, but where do you draw the line on what's the best use of your time?
This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
