Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion What do you love about your work?

In the book of "Good to Great", three circles of the hedgehog concept was introduced. One of the circles addresses "What you are deeply passionate about". It says "The good-to-great companies focused on those activities that ignited their passion. The idea is not to stimulate passion but to discover what makes you passionate."

I am curious about - what do you love about your work?

I am passionate about two things.

My first passion is genealogy. I love discovering where people came from, helping others connect with their past, and learning about other cultures.

My second passion is proofreading. I'm crazy about looking for errors. I love helping people clean up their websites, copy and material for a more professional appearance.

I'm administrative at heart but those are my two passions. When people hire me regarding those tasks, I glow.

People are my passion, so my favorite part of my job is meeting people, hearing their stories, and finding a way to help them - whether they hire me or not. I think everything else in life comes and goes - money, homes, cars, all that "stuff" - but people are eternal, so that's where I invest the bulk of my time, energy, and attention.

Great question - can't wait to see the rest of the discussion!

I love really getting know people and then creating tools to help them to be more focused and successful. It is the creativity part that feeds my passion and knowing that programs and process I have developed really work and help people in their business.

It is fun for me to then see these people out in the world being able to help other people via their business once they are more focused.

    Great question!

    Great question Hsuan-Hua!

I dig into these questions everday and discover new things about myself and new ways of expressing it.
Currently, I'd say I'm primarily passionate about helping people/organizations find their core, become creative and build community.

Spark Northwest is my business for face-to-face work in that domain, while Spark Social Media uses tech tools that foster innovation and community.

I love the idea that in the future I'll be able to work from anywhere in the world [where there is an internet connection].

[Of course I love many other things... I just needed to put this one on paper] ;]

    What I love about coaching...

I empower people to see how extraordinary they are and to live life fully.

I get to use my creativity and clarity to make a difference.

I experience life through others' eyes. My world is expanding.

My clients have a bigger purpose in life. Their world is expanding.

I am curious what you really enjoy to do? What do you love about it? Could you share with us?

I love helping people understand how their bodies work and what they can do every day to feel better. I love it when the lights go on and my patients make connections about their health. I love it when they realize they have the capacity to heal. I love making the kind of mistakes that allow me to really learn something about myself or how to run my business better (Ok, not the making mistakes part, but the learning that comes after that).

I am passionate about helping people claim and protect their human and legal rights in a world (and country) where those rights are constantly being subverted in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. I have a small but significant roll as a private investigator; but, it gets me up every morning with my heart fire burning.

Discovering things I didn't know I loved and loving doing it.

Seeing the same thing as others, but having my own thoughts.

    Relishing in the detail.

Hope that goes someway to answering your question.

Oh and just to keep in line with everyone else's altruistic pronouncements here; helping people, stroking small animals (but not cats...I don't care how warm and loving everyone else here is, I'm not going to love cats)and all that stuff...just so I don't come over as a self absorbed, egotistical, nihilistic numpty.

Thanks for sharing, Stephen and everyone shared on this topic.

I heard a lot of value honored - compassion, creativity, clarity, empowerment, adventure, passion, generosity, curiosity, discovery. freedom, relationships, learning, community, innovation, wealth, health, contribution, excellence, integrity and accomplishment.

I am honored to be part of the community.

This one was hard to answer and I stayed away from it for many days.

Stephen, I think your contributions were priceless. They certainly made me think. There are certain things in life I am passionate about and things in my business, too. But when the two intersect, it can be glorious. I actually think that's the key to being happy.

"Discovering things I didn't know I loved and loving doing it"? Priceless. And "seeing the same thing as others, but having my own thoughts"? I'm loving that.

My passion, if I have to pick just one, is figuring out different ways to do things. Thinking about things in different ways, turning things around and upside down to see if I can see something different. And wondering about it all.

Oh and just to be a little altruitistic (I'm smiling right now, Stephen), I love animals, especially cats.

I don't have cats. I am glad that I don't have to coach them. :)

I wonder if you two (Stephen and Judy) did "Discover Your Strengths" or "StrengthFinder 2.0". I did both and discovered that one of my strenghs was "strategic" - to sort through clutter and find the best route - a gift allows me to see patterns where others simply see complexity.

Another of my strength is Relator. Relationship is a high value of mine.

I think what I love about my work is based on these strengths.

No idea what Discover your Strength, or strengthfinder 2.0 are. I tend not to be too bothered about discovering myself, I just sort of find myself there most mornings and make do! If others discover me, then they'll formulate their own opinions be they favourable or not. Cat lovers, for instance, detest me...and I can live quite happily with that.

I LOVE talk about passion. In fact, it's one of my passions! One of my spiritual gifts is encouragement and if you get me going on passion and having joy in what you do and finding a job you love, etc., I can go on and on.

Basically, I am blessed to love every facet of my work life. My full-time job, which is really a placeholder for my business until I can do that full time, allows me to write and help people and use administrative skills and I love to do all that. Actually the administrative part is just an extension of me helping my coworkers to do their jobs so it boils down to writing - my natural gift - and helping others - another spiritual gift. I get up in the morning happy to have a job that fulfills me.

My business lets me be creative, which I love to be, and my business partner and I seek to help others with whatever profit we make as well as to help them directly with information, resources we know of, etc. I love it all! And it took 12 years to for me to have a life where I am satisfied in just about everything. (It can't be perfect, after all!) So I am thankful to God for that.

    Monica,

I feel your passion and happiness. Isn't it great to live a life you love?

    Stephen,

StrengthFinder 2.0 is a book($12) that comes with a code to allow you to do a test on line. It's a revised version of Discover Your Strength. Both of them are strength tests. They provided interesting data to me. I recommend it to my clients who want to discover their strength and weakness for career choices.

    I love networking.

I love helping other people find the passionate, wildly enthusiastic, and driven person inside.

I love helping others succeed, and was brought to tears (Literally. And during a business meeting, much to my chagrin.) the first time someone referred to me as a mentor.

THAT is why I do what I do - oh YEAH!

It meant that I had been able to pay back some of the help I have had from my mentors.

    Self serving? Perhaps a little.

Beneficial to others? I hope so!

I'm passionate about community! It's such a complex thing, so interesting, mysterious even. With Biznik I love creating a framework for community, the scaffolding if you will, and nurturing it, but mostly getting out of it's way and watching it grow while at the same time being part of it, responsible to it. It's rewarding on so many levels.

I LOVE creating home out of hell for my clients - helping them fall in love with their spaces, whether it's for the first time or again.

For me, home is sanctuary. It's key to me feeling grounded and centered so I be my best me in life and be of best support to others. Being able to help my clients feel this way too - watching their smiles grow and the heaviness of unhappy home interiors lift is SO rewarding. Makes me do the happy dance inside :)

Love is another thing I am passionate about. Whether it's being partnered or just sharing love with my community, we can't survive without it. Bringing this element into my work by making nests for love to flourish in client homes is just the best! Ok...more happy dances inside.

I can't seem to get enough of this interior decorating. It might be the best sickness that ever existed. It's tactile, it's creative, it's cozy and yummy...and it's great to share with others!

Shoot...I could make a love nest out of stuff in the woods if I had to!

I am now able to add on-line strength testing to my list:

    Cats. On-line strength testing.

However, back to things that are loved.

Northern Idaho and Montana. Great weekend there. Huckleberry Tent and Breakfast, near Clark Fork...google it then go. They have a lifestyle that some here would attribute to spirituality, but others, me included, might just as happily regard as having found something uniquely splendid.

I love the freedom of having my own business. I also love it when I can find a big bag of money for my client by looking at their old tax returns, prepared by themselves or a cpa. Once I found about a $44,000 tax refund. A couple weeks ago I found a $18,000 tax refund.
