Subscribe to Community-wide general discussion What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you in business?

One of the things that I miss about working in an office environment, and mind you there are only a handful of things I miss about working in the office environment - free office supplies and .... let me get back to you on that.

This past week I have found myself missing the camaraderie among co-workers. You know what I mean - the back-slapping, high-fiving, fist-pumping. I miss having a co-worker grab an important phone call because I had to run and make copies, or having someone offer to throw some change in the meter so my car does not get a ticket. Grab me a sandwich because I have not eaten all day and tell me that the Petersen presentation was "Spot On". I know that these things seem insignificant but they are just nice.

One of my writers wrote a poem for me on Boss's Day" when I was a manager at a relief and development organization. Funny, I still have it. It makes me smile.

The parents of my first graders planned a surprise, kid-focused, classroom wedding shower when Bob and I were engaged, complete with a quilt the kids had made and a silly spelling game.

But you're right, it's all the little things. A teaching partner who shares her gummy bears when you need a sugar fix. Talking over last night's episode of "Frasier."

Those co-workers who think of ways to relieve the stress with a contest for the sappiest piece of writing for an imaginary grant proposal. Or the occasional cartoon stick figure on the white board with a thought bubble that says what everyone wanted to say, but were afraid to.

    Wow. I guess I miss quite a few things, don't I?

Great post Elizabeth, though it feels like two posts -nicest thing and 'what do you miss'. I miss the company of others, thats my biggest struggle as well.

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
