Subscribe to Hot Topics & Controversy How's your Klout working for you?

A couple of years ago, another Biznik tweeted me telling me I had Klout.

I noticed that he'd spelled the word incorrectly, but upon closer investigation, I discovered he was talking about KLOUT, not clout (LOL)

  • What's Klout mean to you?
  • How has it worked (or not) for you?
  • Do you monitor your Klout, or otherwise engage with the site?  Why or why not?

When I got a notification from Klout that I had broken 50, I was pretty excited.

I spent a couple of weeks afterwards monitoring it, but have subsequently stopped.

When I use it, it is more of a verification on what I presumed; like the person I am researching is or is not using social as a tool enough to rely on for whatever reason I am looking into.

I rarely engage with the site because of all the 'Perks popups' - they are never relevant to me.

That's a great way to use it, Matt, as a way to verify the extent to which someone is "social.

One of the ways I use it is to give +K to folks who have influenced me in a certain area. It's a fun way to acknowledge others and let them know you appreciate them and their work.

Klout has added new functionality to the giving of +K to another, the option to leave a note or testimonial explaining why/how the person has influenced or impacted you.

Check out this interesting article on one person's view about what Klout really measures:

Myself, I have mixed feelings about Klout and their method to their madness.

But when it comes to influencers, perks, etc, here is a great post from a colleague of mine....

I just took a look at my rather small Klout score of '10'. Wow. An untended garden doesn't really grow that well, anyway.

I took a look at the higher scores. They had a tendancy to be the "stephen fry" or the "ashton's" of the world.

How does someone who is average and doesn't spend every second of every day on twitter, get a higher score?
