Subscribe to Introduce your bad indie self Greetings from Atlanta

Hi, my name is Bob, and I'm a new small business owner. ("hi, Bob!") I've been freelancing for a number of years, but as of last Thursday, when my team and I were laid off from our full-time gig, I am officially taking this freelance thing full-time.

I'm a web designer/developer with a focus on the development: PHP/MySQL/jQuery/etc. For whatever reason, custom content management systems, custom ecommerce systems, and web site administrative back-ends have become a particular specialty of mine.

I look forward to checking in here often to see what's new, meet new people, and hopefully help my business grow.

Cheers, Bob

No "hi Bob" for you sir... Instead, Hello Bob! Welcome to Biznik!

I know what you mean when all a sudden you're working for yourself. I quit my job and I'm giving this be-your-own-boss thing a shot. What once was a side project has become my bread.

I love CMS, I run/manage about 5 websites... I hope to one day master PHP.

Happy Networking and good luck growing your business!

Andrey, Nikhil, thank you both for the warm welcome.

Andrey, sounds like you're not afraid to "dive in" and tackle a problem. If you haven't already begun poking around with PHP, I recommend simply diving in head-first and giving it a go. It's not a difficult language to begin tinkering with, and you'll soon find yourself expanding your vocabulary faster than you thought you could.

Nikhil, what would you say is the percentage of print vs web that you do?

    Cheers, Bob

Bob, We handle 70% of the web media and 30% of the print collaterals.

    Bob!

Have you come across French poet, Guillame Apollinaire's small poem - 'Come to the Edge'?

    He says,

“Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge, he said. They came. He pushed them and they flew.”

Trust, that you have made the right choice. Just don't freelance. Think big, if your work is something that you love doing, then a year from now, you could look at starting a full fledged business for yourself.

I myself started out with just one client, when I chucked my job and took up freelancing. Today I have more than a few dozen premium clients.

    Best wishes in your endeavours.

    - regards Asavari.

Thanks, Asavari. Great poem, never heard that one before.

You do have a point - even though this is my full-time job now, I have to stop thinking of it as "freelancing." Freelancing was something I did on the side when I had another full-time job. :-)

One good thing about this is, I didn't start from scratch. Because I had been freelancing for the last several years, I have a stable of clients already, with more coming in the door on a daily basis.

    Cheers, Bob
