Hi.
I haven't been a member on here long, but welcome!
I am also from a different part of the globe (Australia).
See you round! :)
Hi ya all…… Let me introduce myself, I am from Islamabad, Pakistan. Hmm… you all probably know by now where its at due to its coverage on CNN. (In the 90’s lots of Americans i met thought it was part of Latin America… due to my face resemblance :)).
Just a short brief history of mine: I have lived in following countries: Saudi Arabia -8 years, Switzerland -1 year, Houston (TX) – 2 years , St. Cloud (MN)- 3 years, Minneapolis (MN)- 4 years, and Islamabad (Pakistan)- 18 years. Hmmm… now you can see why I am sick of traveling.
Anyways, these days I am working as Online Marketing Manger for UK based company, and my side business includes outsourcing, UK company formation, and trade (export). Therefore, I am looking for buyers in the US for different products I am involved in: beddings, soccer balls, small surgical tools, towels etc. If you know of anyone who is interested in these products do let me know or give them my email: saddal@hotmail.com
Although I am a Linkedin user, I like Biznik better. Why? I think it could be the simple interface, and better one on one communication with other biz people and I wish I was in the states to attend of all good events happening :( What I miss about the states? Hmm… NFL (Go Vikings!), NBA (Rockets), Golf, Racquetball, Walt Disney, road trip to other states, the snow :( (no sign of snow here) and my drunk friends :) . Yes drunk friends. I remember once, I made a friend of mine strip and run around the apartment complex while it was snowing…… those college days.
If any of you want something from Pakistan, I might be able to post you. ;)
Allah Hafiz ( God bless you)… and best wishes from here…

Hi Imran,
Best of luck to you and Welcome!

Imran:
The problem with textiles and sporting equipment is the major US importers (Williams Sonoma, Target, Nike, etc.) all have such purchasing power that it will be difficult to get traction in the US market for those goods. Some surgical tools may also have US FDA regulations affecting their import.
Given the very weak USD, I would even recommend buying the very affordable US goods such as capital equipment (machinery, trucks, farm equipment, etc.) - after all, the USD has been on sale for a few years now and US goods are cheaper than ever (15% cheaper in the last 6 months vs. EUR).
Since you're in my network, let's talk about this off-line. Clearly some thought as to which products would do best flowing in which direction.... - JP
Welcome to Biznik, Imran.
Are there many indie business people in your community in Islamabad? Do you think they'd be interested in adding a profile on Biznik?
I'm sorry you're unable to attend the cool events that are happening here in Seattle, but it's pretty easy to get events started in your area.
Gathering a 1/2 a dozen indies together and meeting over coffee is a great start. You can talk about sharing business, and discuss ways you can help each other.
One of our first Biznik events 2 years ago was made up of 12 of us in a circle sharing breakfast. After we each stood up, introduced ourself, and shared one "need", we figured out what kind of educational event we could all benefit from. Then we found someone who wanted to teach us and the first educational Biznik event soon followed.
