Subscribe to Starting a business New Site vs. Old Site - curious for opinions

Hi there,

I'm a one-man company that creates high resolution 360° virtual tours in the San Francisco Bay Area and I recently decided to change my website.

I started my company thinking that I would cator to Realtors, but as time has evolved I have realized that I can make more money with businesses.

I split my company/site in to two. My main identity/site that I am promoting is www.bayareavr.com, and it was just redesigned from this site: www.bayareavirtualrealty.com (which is up because I have made it more Realtor-centric).

People always loved my old site (www.bayareavirtualrealty.com, which was bayareavr.com) and I'm curious what some biznikers think of "what I've done".

If you have a moment, and would be gracious enough to offer feedback, I'd really appreciate it :)

Thanks!!

Makes sense to attack both sets of customers. From an SEO perspective, I'm concerned that you have massive amounts of duplicate content which won't help your new site rank for its terms.

I recommend you clearly separate content so it is on one site or the other, redirect the old content to the new site, then cross link the sites together in case a company lands on the real estate site, or vice versa.

Hi Eli, I really like the new site, it is much tighter than the original. You may want to consider having the sidebar slideshow react more like the banner on the original site. Besides that real good job. Congrats Rick

Thanks for the feedback - and a BIG thanks for the heads up/reminder about duplicate content.

Just had a fairly quick scan of both sites and I have to say I'm fairly impressed and very envious. I have trying to get a virtual tour angle going in Carlisle, but so far without any real success.

Looking at your new site have you used panoweaver? I do like the floor button that encapsulates the panoramic image in the napa valley tour.

One of the reasons I have felt hindered in pushing myself towards potential clients is that I still, after a year, struggle a bit with rendering a good colour balance.

How do you approach this aspect in locations with such wildly variable lighting mixtures?

Any tips, please fire away. My site is www.fullscreen-virtual-tours.co.uk though I am slightly embarrassed to punt it after looking at yours.

Good luck with what you're doing, you have obviously got that business well sussed, despite website issues of duplication.

Hi Ray - For sure - I'm super supportive, email me at my personal email: epoblitz@gmail.com.

My advice ... use ptgui to stitch, flash panorama player and possibly flashificator to make the panos, and HDR exposure fusion for lighting ;)

This forum is unmoderated, but please keep discussion courteous and not too far off topic.
