Crimson Deed will go to Northlands Park in Edmonton in April to continue her schooling and training as a racehorse. Professionals who become part of the Racing For A Cause partnership will have many events to attend in Edmonton from April to September 24, 2011. The events will vary from backstretch tours of the stable , frequent " Tea at the Track" gatherings to watch the progress of Crimson Deed and group Clubhouse seating on Race Days when she is racing.

Thank you Richard for your positive comment. This is indeed an special innovative project that is close to my heart and I know Racing For A Cause has received national attention here in Canada from the Canadian Thoroughbred Society when this was featured in their national magazine. This featured horse Crimson Deed is also a heartwarming story as she was orphaned at 3 months when her champion mother Crimson Hue died. I am also planning to publish a Therapy book for children about this story of Crimson Hue and Crimson Deed with the themes of Attachment , loss and overcoming obstacles in the pursuit of a DREAM ..

If you want to see photos from a recent Biznik event held April 10 at a Famous Alberta Thoroughbred Breeding farm go to my Biznik website and follow the links to PAST Events . There are photos of the Sire - former Queen's Plate winner , Alydeed, and many pictures of attendees interacting and getting up close and personal with 2011 Racing For A Cause's 3 year old filly Crimson Deed. An inspiration for this project was to Make A Difference for Charities of choice and to also to introduce Albertans to the excitement of the behind the scenes world of breeding , owning and developing an Equine athlete here in Alberta. Thanks to Bob and Bill for your positive comments. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the photos. I hope the selection of photos captured the essence and magnificence of the experience. The horses are the main stars in an event like this, and it is wonderful that people were able to really interact with the horses at the breeding farm. Dr. Brenda E. Abbey

Thanks Trevor, It is always nice to connect with Biznik people in my home province. The Racing For A Cause project is open to resident Albertans since Horse Racing Alberta requires qualification for an Alberta owner's licence to be involved. Hope that you can spread the word as I am appealing to interested professionals who want to make a difference and love the idea of being connected with Thoroughbreds .

    Mother's Day 2012

This was a memorable day at Northlands Park racetrack in Edmonton. Crimson Deed had her first workout out of the starting gate with a real jockey in order to get gate approval for racing.Veteran Alberta jockey Perry Winters was in the saddle and Crimson Deed was impressive- recording a black letter workout for 4 furlongs { fastest work of the day at that distance at the racetrack}. The beauty of the event was how easily she did her first lifetime recorded workout , covering the ground on her own .Perry Winters commented that she was so smooth , he didn't realize how fast she was going until he looked down at the track!! She was ahead of her work mates by 10 lengths at the finish line. Her mother, Alberta Champion racing filly, Crimson Hue ran the same way, breaking her maiden by 10 1/2 lengths. On that special Mother's Day 2012 . the spirit of Crimson Hue was running with her daughter- Crimson Deed will definitely follow in her mother's hoofprints !!

    July , 2012

Crimson Deed was a longshot upset winner in her 2nd lifetime start on June 30, 2012. Many fans benefitted from the excitement and thrill of her come from behind win as well as the huge win payout of $ 57.80 for a $2.00 bet. As her owner and founder of Racing for a Cause 2012 , I am making a charitable contribution from Crimson Deed's racing purse winnings . It is given to the University of Alberta hospital research fund for brain cancer research in memory of Ricky Hansen , who died in May 2011. Ricky was a horse lover and a long time backstretch friend who was also her mother Crimson Hue's groom.

The 2013 race season preparations are well started for this year's Racing for a Cause racehorse - 2 year old Alberta bred filly named Avonly. Avonly continues to impress with her competitive attitude and fast , athletic ability. Training in the foundation basics that every horse needs is happening NOW for Avonly at Peaceful Valley farm { where she was born and raised}. Avonly is booked in May, 2013 for KINDERGARTEN training at Bar None racetrack- the same experience that benefitted Crimson Deed in her race preparation experience. In the summer Avonly will graduate to the Edmonton " A" racetrack training under the guidance of high win % trainer Sharon Bott. Since Avonly is an Alberta bred thoroughbred with a classy pedigree for speed and stamina , the racing goal will be the $ 50,000 Sturgeon River 2 year old filly stake race on September's Alberta Bred Fall Classic Day.
