That I spread myself too thin at one point. You don't need 30 different social networking groups. :)
What I have learned about self promotion on social network sites
Is there anything you have regretted doing early on in your business development?
I will rue the day I ever posted anything on linkedIN about my business page on facebook. Because now I get messages like this posted there.
Nice page. Found you thru' Linkedin and liked your page.
Please like us back.
http://www.facebook.com/ somebusiness name
Please use your personal account for like/follow/join. Business account likes are not counted by Facebook.
I don't mind folks posting that they found. I do dislike the request to use my personal account though and I suspect that the second sentence is false as I have liked many pages with my business page.
Oh and the fact that my post on LinkedIn was over a year ago and I still get this stuff. I really wish I could erase it.
So who else has regrets or thoughts?

Jun 11, 2012 Interesting story, Annastacia! (And a good warning...) Very annoying that strangers would ask you to "like" their page.
And yes, you can "like" with your business page, but it very well might not be looked upon the same way (to the algorithms, or for someone trying to get their "vanity url") as personal "likes." Not that that's your problem.
I think if I had a regret it would be not utilizing my facebook business pages better, sooner and more often.

Jun 13, 2012 Kate with the new way pages are created you get your vanity URL at the start now, which is nice. I also think Facebook is changing some of the old rules with the pages for the algorithms and such in regards to people liking and pages liking pages.
I did have to turn off the message feature on 2 pages because people would use that to send me messages to 'demand' I like them. I think that is the factor, I don't like people demanding anyone like anything.
I agree Laura spreading out too thin can be a huge issue. I don't even log in to my linkedIn account that often. Maybe once every couple of months. My pinterest account is just for fun. Twitter and Facebook are the only 2 I take seriously.

Jun 13, 2012 One of the things I enjoy about G+ are the notifications generated to remind users to think before they post.
It might be a small road block, but I think our user experience would be much better on social networks if people seriously thought just one second before they created a page for their business, or an event, or anything and posted, spammed, or blasted it out to the world.
In that second, business owners might think to themselves:
Did I do all the work necessary to put this out in the world? (even if that means it's only 70% done!)
Is this the best way to share this information?
What do I need to do to follow up with this to connect this as a great experience for my audience.

Jun 17, 2012 I do keep my personal sites away from my business sites. I am always careful what I post on any of my sites as I know if one saw it, then 250 more saw it. Now it is just getting the right people to see our sites. I use to sign on to FB once a month or so just to see what the grandkids are up to but most of the adults I know want you to feed their farm babies. No time for that.

Jun 18, 2012 I hid all the games. If you click in the right hand corner above the post, a selection box will appear to hide all of them.
I couldn't deal with farmville either. :)

Aug 01, 2012 I got a comment on a post one of the people shared on my facebook page, He was actually asking me AGAIN to come like his page.

I am so not wanting anyone to like my page because of this. I just wanted to show the example. I actually found it a bit rude.

Aug 01, 2012 I would totally mark that as spam.
Though, if you do, it will most likely render that link an error.
Here is an image for you to use into posterity.
Maybe as a full article or guest blog post on Biznik?

Aug 01, 2012 Thanks Matt, it is already marked as spam. So glad the links works for others too.
i am still working on how to write that article. With the heat down here in the south my writing has gotten a bit sparse, even my personal blog has been slow this summer.

Posted by Pam Johnson-Bennett, CCBC, Nashville, Tennessee |Aug 06, 2012 I think that when it comes to social media you have to take the good with the bad. I get those type of requests very often and I just ignore them or delete them. I have even had people post promotions about their own books on MY Facebook page (I'm an author), hoping to capture some of my audience.
Very often, my little "delete" button becomes my best friend.

Aug 13, 2012 I honestly can't say I "regret" anything that I've done while marketing or networking on social media platforms. Though that doesn't mean I haven't had my fair share of "oops's", lol. Though I look at each of them as the learning lessons that have helped me master my own form of artistic social media marketing. Without those "oh crap!" moments, I wouldn't be where I am now.
Great question! =)
