Subscribe to Want to trade with me? OFFERED: Space for small classes WANTED: Include me in the student body (Seattle/Magnolia)

Come teach your small, private classes at my place, and include me in the mix in exchange for the use of space.

A variety of things could be taught in the space--we've a large open indoor space, a blackboard, a pinboard, an open kitchen, work tables, and an amazingly private and deliciously natural outdoor space--so the possibilities are large.

What I especially seek are Pilates mat classes but other forays into "education" are intriguing, too--writing, photography, wooo-wooo goodies.

Drop me an email with your ideas/interests and we'll see what percolates.

    Hey Leila,

My business is Eternal Spring Arts and I teach Kung Fu. I'm looking into alternative space opportunities for Fall/Winter. I pretty much hand pick my students because it's an art and a passion not my primary income. I can also teach beginning Chinese Language, Intercultural workshops, etc... Any points of light their that intersect for you?

    Have a fantasmic day!

    Brad

Brad, I suspect the indoor space is too small for the exuberant movement of Kung Fu :-( but hmmm, things "intercultural" always seem to intrigue me.

Although I mainly do photography I have had this pull to teach some creative art classes. Meaning playtime for adults. This would include some meditations, group art projects, and rad inner growth. Let me know if you would be up for this!

    Best, Sarah

What about financial advice? Based on some encouragement that I've gotten from some Biznik folks, I am planning on doing some workshops on money management (I am a non-traditional financial coach). Not exactly artistic, but I thought I would ask :o)

Our company specializes in technology support. We do quite a few one day/half day training sessions on a myriad of subjects though. In the past we have done Outlook Secrets and Best Practices, Home and Small Business Networking (plus Wireless), Creating PowerPoint Presentations, Basic Computer Troubleshooting, etc.

We are not located in the Seattle area, but we have done trainings for the Rotary Club, Optimists, Lions, etc. in multiple states. We have the equipment...all we need is the space and an audience.

So I ought to provide a little more description of the space so all y'all can rule it in or out of your realm of possibilities.

Probably the greatest thing about the space is that it offers a sense of being in the middle of nowhere, while still being only ten minutes (or less) from downtown Seattle. So if your gig is well-served by a sense of remoteness, nature, and privacy, this place might be great for you.

When I describe the space as having a "large open indoor space" I realize that for folks who host "real" trainings and such, you're probably thinking Sheraton ballroom as your reference for "large". It's not that at all, sorry. We're much homier than that, which makes sense, since this is our home ... so, think lodge-in-the-woods, maybe.

Small groups are best. We've had a class of photographers here shooting for Patricia Ridenour's Form and Figure class--there were about eight of them shooting indoors and out. For a more sedate gathering (lecture-like?) a group of ten to twenty could be accommodated, depending upon how much gadgetry was involved.

So, a creative foray such as you describe Sarah, that might be a great match. And other trainings that would benefit from being in a more "warm" and comfortable space, conducive to one-on-one interaction and connection.

As an aside, it used to be that official Biznik events had to be held in public spaces, and I don't know if our space would meet Biznik definitions of "public" .... but I also do not see that listed any longer among the rules for Biznik events ...

Please let me know if it sounds like this might suit you, and we can talk more.

This is the kind of place it is: For the second time this week, I just saw a Peregrine Falcon sitting in the cherry tree, surveying its dinner options ... and I can hear the harbor seals barking down in the Locks.

Leila, I want to start giving educational talks about what I do and health topics in general. I am very open to woo woo things and your place sounds like a perfect setting to create the feeling I want my audience to have. Please see my profile on biznik to see what it is that I do. I'm just starting my business and want to start working on this ASAP.

    Hey Leila,

I actually just went in to post an event that would be hosted at another Biznik's residence and saw a note that read "IMPORTANT: Biznik does not permit events to be held in private residences. Exceptions are made for home offices/practices that are accessible from a separate entry marked with a commercial sign designating it as a business."

Is your place truly just a private residence, or is it in any way designated as a business? Cause I would love to find a great venue AND include you in the enneagram class.

Indeed there is a ban on hosting official Biznik events in private homes, unless the home has a space dedicated to the home business, with a private/separate entrance--such that guests do not walk through, for example, the hosts' kitchen on the way to the Biznik event.

I have discussed this at length with Lara (Biznik co-founder) and we've talked about the whys and what-fors behind this policy--which has been set in part for the comfort of event attendees.

And yes, my space is my home, but it is also a space that is being intentionally designed to accommodate public events (of many kinds). I am in the process of altering and amending the space, as well as my operations, so that I can comply with assorted regulations, including Biznik's event venue requirements.

Unfortunately, the rule that Biznik events must be hosted in public spaces only, comes to light only after you use the Biznik Event listing feature. So when I made this initial post about Trades, I didn't know that requirement was still in existence--I apologize for any false-starts other event hosters may have taken from my post.

More, later, as my work progresses.

I am SO glad that you posted this Leila.

I would love to discuss the possibility of our Sacred painting group meeting at your place. I am always on the look out for just the right vibe, and your place sounds wonderful. And better yet, I do not run these as a biz nik event so we do not have to worry about the rules mentioned above. Thank you biz nik (and Dan and Lara) for connecting us!
    I love this community.

Hi again Leila, Is your space available? I see these postings have been running for some time and can't tell if you are still offering the exchange. I intend to find a space where I can hold a satsang either once a month or bi-monthly, depending on the interest level. "The Power of Now" is the basis for the workshop, guided meditation/self-inquiry, group questions and facilitated answers. A very peaceful, sedate, private place is exactly what I envision. This work can be very vulnerable and bring up much emotion, so a space that feels removed from the hustle and bustle as well as nurturing to inner silence is perfect. Your place sounds beautiful.

For more info on the work I do, go to www.thework.com. My profile is very self-explanatory as well. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you.

I would love to work with you on creating a workshop on Color Healing and Energy Signatures, but I'm on the other side of the State. Would you be willing to work with me to do some local marketing? I can drive to Seattle once I have enough people to present to, but have no idea who to market to in your area. Does that make sense?

For anyone else, I offer the same - you schedule, I'll present. Contact me for more info.

Sorry. For the next few months my energies are to be concentrated on quitting my day-job and finishing up my live/work space. I'm pretty hunkered down in It's All About Me ;-)

But DeBorah, you might want to drop a line to Elke Macartney.

    Leila,

    Congrats on moving forward!

At some point I'd love to offer a creativity workshop, like the ones I've done on Vashon using visualization, art-making with mixed media, etc. I normally keep it to 6 people but chez toi maybe 8 or 10. And your place would be perfect.

    See you soon.

    Hi Leila,

I teach a variety of fitness classes including cardio salsa/dance fusion, pilates, yoga (& a bit of Tai Chi), weight training, step, interval etc - lots of formats... I also teach a wide variety of classes on personal development/growth/wellness/relationships fitness - lots to choose from, and a combination of wellness coaching & fitness training. What is the capacity for movement type classes. Let me know if any of this is in line with your vision.

    Warmest wishes, Patricia

Patricia, so sorry. The space is "small" for movement oriented classes. Thanks for asking.

Hannah, perhaps we can talk about your workshop when I see you tonight.

So, Leila, is your space "officially" allowed for Biznik event usage now?

  • Leila Anasazi
Posted by Leila Anasazi, Seattle, Washington | Aug 07, 2008

Rachel, I recently tried to get the space "rated" okay for Biznik events but I'm denied.

I can jump all the published hoops (separate entrance, commercial sign ... ) but I don't want to hood-wink anyone once I've been told, No.

I hear that some folks have been approved to host events in similar spaces, in part b/c they said they have a non-profit registration. That's something I've been looking into acquiring, but was hoping I didn't have to obtain just so I (and others) could host Biznik events in my space.

I'll keep at it. I love my space, others do too, and I want to share it.

I have an "artsy" event that I am putting together as a result of requests and comments made by other Bizniks and I will try and get it approved to host it in my space, but I don't think it will be; in which case I will probably host it here anyway, but it won't be listed on the Biznik event calendar (I'll announce it in Biz Talk I suspect ...)

Would love to have you do something here, Rachel. Thanks for asking again. Maybe it will work out one day.

The space sounds very cool... I've always fantasized about a live/work/host space surrounded by nature like that.

Yes, I hear that you're swamped right now and that you're not set up to be an official Biznik space, but check out my profile (I'm new hear) and if my Living in Abundance class (for women only) or the idea of a house concert is appealing, maybe there are possibilities for us in the future.
