Subscribe to Want to trade with me? WANTED: a space to host a Biznik class; OFFERED: free class attendance OBO

Hey y'all,

I'm looking for a nice, private space to host my event on the enneagram. I have grown tired of the semi-private, inexpensive spaces out there, and I don't want to jack up my event attendance fees just to cover a more costly, "appropriate" space.

So what I'm looking for is a big-ish office space, conference room, or general use space. My event should be around 6 to 15 people and needs some chairs and table space for writing notes and scribbling answers to personality test questions.

If you've got a space that would be good (and it isn't your house, since that's against Biznik rules), drop me a note and we'll see if we can set up something mutually beneficial.

The Fremont Library has a meeting room that has been used for Biznik events; I believe it might suit you. I think the Ballard library has a similar space. You can find out more on spl.org.

Thanks, Leila. I looked into library spaces a while ago when I first started hosting events. They require that I do NOT charge a fee, and you can only use them for the same organization twice in a year, or something like that. Too many rules for this gal. Thanks for trying to help out, though!

Give me a buzz if your interested.

    How long is your class?

A number of coffee shops around town have private rooms that seat up to a dozen around a board room table, with doors that shut out the sounds of the patrons and espresso machines. They're free and usually can be reserved in advance.

I know some successful Biznik events have been held at these places (I've attended events at the first three and they were great):

    • Uptown Espresso on Westlake
    • Uptown Espresso on 4th in Belltown (Barista will reserve over the phone)
    • Vivace Espresso off Broadway
    • Mosaic Coffee in Greenwood? (haven't been there yet.)

Hi Rachel. I noticed your post. I am opening a small showroom space in the Wallingford / Fremont area - it will be ready for hosting events the middle of February. It has a large open room and will have conference table. It is street front, so easy to find. Although not available immediately, keep in mind for future small events(6-10 people). Contact me if you need to discuss. Kayron

Thanks for the suggestions, all. That's really helpful about the coffee shops, Lara.

Daenin, my class will be 2-3 hours long. I will keep you and Kayron in mind as I figure out my next step. Thanks to both of you for the offers!

    Hi Rachel,

I recommend either the Phinney Neighborhood Center or the Crown Hill Activity Center. I'm not sure about PNC, but the last time I checked Crown Hill Charges $25 an hour to rent out a 1000 sq. foot room. Table and chairs can be provided at no extra charge. The phone number is 206-782-2611

Thanks, Melissa. If I were hosting a big class, that would be totally reasonable. As it is, my enneagram class tends to be about 6-10 people...and sometimes it doesn't even get up there. So $50 to $75 for a space is too much for me in this regard. I will check out the PNC to see about their rates, though.

Thanks for keeping me in mind. 2-3 hours is no problem - day or evening. I would be happy to have light refreshments available, as I am looking to gain exposure for the new space.

Absolutely. That's the kind of trade I had in mind. I'd rather help promote a fellow indie than an established Starbucks or whatever.

Shoot me a message when your space is ready. :)

I held my first event at a public library and I did charge Bizniks for the event.

Their condition to make it free and available to all was fine by me. I only advertised on Biznik, no one else knew about it, or what it was. No one even walked by. It was the library near Harvard, and the meeting rooms are on the second floor where no one goes.

    FWIW.
