Yeah that's a very interesting announcement Google made. Including Open Social in what we're doing looks a whole lot more interesting the building a facebook app, on closer examination. So what's your take, Barry - think it would make sense for us? Also, how much work is it to incorporate?
Open Social for Biznik?
Since I've received about fifteen phones calls on the new Open Social standard API that Google managed to establish with other sites like MySpace and LinkedIn.... is the Open Social going to find it's way into Biznik as a development set? I saw that there was a brief FaceBook thread where that widget was on the tentative drawing board, but on the bottom of the list.
I'm already working on widgets using the API for several other sites to work with my company's platform.

I think there are probably a half dozen cross-pollination ideas to look at for Biznik. The idea of having LinkedIn professional profiles expose Biznik to that audience is pretty ideal, as is the possibility of having that dev work apply to a few other groups as well.
As far as workload, you would have to tell me. I know the back-end of Biznik is Ruby... it would just ultimately depend on how integrated it became. I'm waiting for LinkedIn to make some API changes to the white papers they have.

Hi Guys,
I've also been following this with some interest. Google's move makes sense for many obvious reasons. OpenSocial is still wet-behind-the-ears (an app. was easily hacked recently) but that will all go away with such powerhouses behind it.
Good development resources are very expensive so being able to develop for one API and access 200 million+ users is definitely a bonus. I'm still on the fence if FB will support OpenSocial - time will tell.
I think future "serious" apps. will not just be FB or MySpace, Orkut etc. but be a combination of Website + "plugins" for these other outlets. Both mediums (Web and social network) have their +/-'s and the more successful folk will use each in the most beneficial and complimentary way.
We are currently creating our first FB app. which ties with a Website and will hopefully be extended with a version written for the OpenSocial API.
It should be very interesting to see how this all plays out.
Cheers!
- Mark.
