    Andrew...Thank you! Thank you!

I used Microsoft works to post, thinking it might subvert the whole MS Word HTML tags deal...sigh I guess it did not.

It felt so good to edit out those embarrassing (for a writer especially) errors. Thanks again. See you soon!

    Elke

re: articles: I received an email saying mine was posted to the main page, but I cannot find it, a day ofter the email was sent. Not under date posted, or hottest, or even professional development, where I posted it.

This happened once before, and the email said it should be posted today at 4:19, FYI.

    thanks.

Howdy! One of the profile ("SHINE") videos isn't showing up on the home page. I got to the home page and saw that Piper's video was the header video, but when I signed in, the video space had a message from Vimeo saying that this video cannot be viewed on this site. I've got a screenshot of the error message if you'd like to see it. I don't know if it'd be Piper's video again or not (between opening the page and signing in).

@Elke: Let's talk about this when you show up today.

@Sandi: Vimeo has had some troubles recently. If you could send the screenshot to my Biznik email address, I'd appreciate it: christian@biznik.com

    @Christian....

I was supposed to be there yesterday afternoon, but the day got away from me... so I got to Seattle in time to pick up a husband form airport...and that's it.

However: fyi: I had my local computer-clean-up and rescue guy come to my office and clean things up in my computer and while he was there we ran a few test articles, and here is what we found:

If I save my stuff in MS WOrd, 2003 version and then transfer to your MS box, it works just fine to post. It's the 2007 version that is gving me big problemos, as far as posting it is concerned. But what to say to others who use 2007? WordPad works as well, by the way, but it has no spell check.

However....i still had to press the PUBLISH button twice in order to see that it was indeed published, and I noticed in my inbox that it was published twice. We did this several times, and the same thing happened each time. Your spinning wheel went for a few seconds then nothing. Then pressed gain, and it published, but it published twice.

I am seeing a lot of double postings going on for people...could this be a bug on your end?

Thanks again, and hope to visit in the nearish future.

I'm glad to hear that the source of the problems has been defined so clearly! Excellent.

MS Word 2007 uses a new format that also includes XML hidden in the file as well as all the other hidden garbage, so it is no surprise it causes additional chaos... what a shame...

As you mentioned, to avoid problems when posting your articles, copy your final article from Word, paste it into WordPad and save it as a new file. Then Copy it from WordPad and that should have stripped all the goofiness out. You should be safe to post it onto the web at that point.

As far as the double-posting issues go, yes, if you click the button twice, it will post twice. :-)

Really, it comes down to patience. Click the button and trust that things are working. Once the process is complete, you will be notified.

If you doubt that the process is still running, then hit the browser's refresh button. Every once in a while when things are really busy on the server, you may not get the final "Successful!" message. Refreshing the browser should set things right again.

Thanks Christian!! I have clicked on the refresh button, and it works for discussion posts and comments, but not for article posts: I click on refresh and get a new page...and lose all the content.

hmmm...will fiddle some more in the future.

    thanks for all you do.

I'm surprised you don't hear little gremlin laughter coming from inside your computer every day, Elke! :-)

In the end, clicking a button should always produce a result. Eventually. If - after a couple of minutes - nothing has happened, try the Refresh button as a last resort.

So far, this is still only your computer having these problems, so maybe your machine is actually the embodiment of a spiritual master who has chosen to teach you some deeper lessons on patience through messing with your web sites while you try to work with them.

Then again, maybe you just need to get a Mac! :-)

On the day of the event, I recorded attendance for my Friday, the 19th, walk in Seward Park and clicked the button to make the matter official. This morning I got an email saying that I hadn't recorded attendance. I went in and did it again, refreshed the page to test, and did it again. I don't believe it's working, as I keep getting the "Record Attendance" button.

    John,

You are correct. My apologies. Attendance IS being recorded properly, but the time the attendance was taken was not being properly noted. So, the computer thought you had yet to take attendance. The problem should now be fixed. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention!

A member of one of my groups tried to add an event to the group. I received the email re: approval but the link is bad (Sorry, we can't find that page).

From the event title I can find the event, but my group no longer appears among the "Add this event to a group" list so I cannot.

This member added five events. The links for the ones she was hosting were fine. The bad link was for an event hosted by someone else.

p.s. I think it's time for there to be a new badge: Pest Control. And I want one :-)

p.p.s. If Pest Control is too long and only Pest fits, that's fine, too.

    Leila,

Can you give me a bit more assistance? The specific events and groups affected would be extremely helpful information.

Thanks for helping us squash the bugs!

Here's the snipped email message with the link that was in the message:

<snip> has submitted a new event to your group still waters.

It's called "Stretch and a Smoothie!" and can be found here:

    Stretch and a Smoothie!

    Leila,

My apologies. I expected you would have received a response before now. In order to access the event link you must be logged in to Biznik. For clarity, I've added a little note to these emails indicating the requirement. You can test this yourself. Log into Biznik, then click the link in your email. Everything should work properly.

Thanks for taking the time to help us make Biznik even better!

    Andrews,

    Sounds good, but.

I am logged into Biznik, and the link doesn't work. Also, I followed links from four other emails that arrived about the same time, and all those links did work.

I encountered this before. I think the circumstances were similar. A member of my group tried to add an event--not one they were hosting but one from a group to which they belonged--and the link in the email went to a "Sorry, we can't find that page" page.

Shall I forward the current email to you?

    --Leila

Thanks for bringing that up, Leila. When we delete spammers we try to vacuum up all the crumbs they leave behind, but it looks like I missed that one. Thank you for pointing it out.

Why is it that when I go to view an event at say page 2 or 3 that when I close that event it always takes me back to page 1. Not a biggie just kind of annoying.

I don't know if it's my problem (a tendency lately of erratic behavior by my mouse) or something else; but I just tried to rate this article http://biznik.com/articles/whatsisname as an 8. Instead, when I tried to drag the rating arrow to 8 (the rating of the only other rating registered at that time), it somehow registered my rating as a 5, thereby giving the article an average rating of 6.5. I feel badly that my error has dragged down the rating of the article. Is there some way we can fix this?

I am trying to edit my profile in the about me section and can not. I have tried twice. The page says it is saving but isn't. I also can not edit my five group links to the left of my profile.

@Troy: You are experiencing a limitation of the Ajax technology we use to display that information on the page. When you go to "Page 2" of the list, it isn't actually a second HTML page. It is just repopulating the main field with cached data. This makes it faster, but also makes it so the Back arrow does not work as you would expect.

My suggestion (and the way I use it), is to hold down the Control key (or right click) when I click on a specific event in the Events List. This will open the event in a new Tab or a new Window in your browser. You can read about the event, RSVP, etc, and when done, just close that window. Then you will be back at the Events List again. I hope this technique is helpful to you!

@John: Every once in a while we hear of someone having troubles like this with the ratings system, but we have not been able to replicate the problem yet. (And without replicating it, fixing it is almost impossible.) When rating articles in the future, take each step with care and intention. If you can pin down what happened, when it happened, and the various software versions you have installed (OS and Browser), send it to me, and we will see if we can pin it down.

In the mean time, I rated the article a 10, which offset your unintended 5.

@Keith: I'll take a look at your profile and connect with you via direct message. Sounds like there might be something wonky in there that might need a gentle tap with a sledgehammer! :-)

2 items: The good news discovery: When I type out an article in the latest version of MS Word, and try to paste it into biznik's articles, no go... But if I "save as" an older version of MS Word, say the 2003 version or older...viola! it works! Happy smile.

Bug item: I am trying to send a letter to my turquoise tribe group. The "wheel" spins, and then nothing. I wait, press the refresh button, but there's no new mail in my in-box, a test that it went through. I wait a mo', and try again to send to all my members. The wheel spins and spins, and then stops. Nothing in inbox again. Yet when I for some reason checked my outbox, I was saddened to see I sent folks 2 messages, even tho I did not recieve one as a member.

Que pasa? Did my peeps receive their message?

    thanks, Elke
