i'm totally overwhelmed by all the changes and i miss the green background. i agree with Giannina that having the color variations and such helps to separate things out, etc.

im confused by the navigation options and am not finding my way around as easily as 1.0. its intimidating to explore and somewhat frustrating. the last version was so easy to get around. now, there are so many options, i am getting lost.

i know its been a lot of hard work and i give you major kudos for that!

now, back to figuring my way around here. more feedback later perhaps.

misty eyed... thinking about that lovely dark green color... I miss it too.

future feature: could you set it so that all the stuff that goes under "my profile" pops out on a mouseover/mouseclick, so that I can select it and go directly to things I use a lot, like say my messages and events?

future feature?: add the dark green back in and make it so that the onmouseover highlights make the upper green menu bar highlight the background to darker and change the onmouseover text color to something lighter when selected.

ff: add my skype id back in to the my profile.

compliment: It's amazing to see all the new members from other places (not seattle). It's a real testament to your great work on the web site that people from so far away feel that there is something of value in creating an account even when there aren't many people in their local area yet! Hella good job!

Amy, just want to encourage you to hang in there. For me, there was some sense of unfamiliarity a week or two ago with the beta. But this time logging in it felt almost like home. I think your brain will adapt, and I predict in a week or two you'll LOVE this new design.

John, am I hearing that you'll be adding search to forums? Just want to chime in that yes, that's essential.

Overall, guys, absolutely stunning, and I'm totally, absolutely excited to help you push the boundaries of what this sleek new jalopy can do for all of us. (Can't wait for groups!!)

Brian, Thanks for sharing that feature request - I like that one, and it shouldn't be too hard to add. I can foresee us adding something like a Google map that allows you to draw a circle similar to what Brian Dorsey did with http://www.noonhat.com

The member search function is heroicly fast and incredibly swank! I was just in San Jose, virtually, and was playing with the radius pull down without entering anything into the search field. Super nice.

Quick feature adjustment request: In our personal profile / network section, could you replace the big honkin' "Remove" buttons with some simple text? Those big orange balloons make it hard to scan the network list.

Hey guys, is it possible to submit an event that would be visible in every locale? I'm thinking about hosting some things virtually. Can you accommodate that?

Good question Joe! I was just wondering that!

  • Dan McComb
Posted by Dan McComb, Seattle, Washington | Jul 04, 2007

Yeah I totally agree the red buttons are too large in the network. We'll add that to the list. And regarding your other question, Joe, there isn't a way currently to list your event everywhere sitewide. We don't support virtual events at this time, but if we get enough requests for that, we'll take a closer look. For now, Biznik is very much a face-to-face organization.

The new site is terrible! I've already wasted many hours enjoying all the new features -- instead of working. Okay, I love it. This site is now officially my favorite "take a break from work" site.

Hey I saw someone's name with a blue star by it. What does the blue star mean?

    Face-to-face...sucks for virtual me!

I guess I'm going to have to fly to Seattle for happy hour before the summer is over! :)

Posted by Joe Shirley, Seattle, Washington | Jul 04, 2007

    Yes, do it Brianna!

Dan, I was thinking maybe a virtual event area on the website, separate from the face-to-face events, could help bootstrap this social network more quickly, as people from outlying areas could start to participate in events and get benefit before there's a critical mass of members in their area. It might also be a fabulous revenue generator - both for the event fees and the incentive for outlying members to become Active or Supporting members.

Sterling, as you can see, I too am finding this new site horrid. It has taken over from reddit.com as my prime time-suck when I should be writing. At least this has the likelihood of contributing to my business, though, so I'm going to roll with it!

The whole thing is comfortable and intuitive, just what we hoped for and have come to expect. Your new features really are stunning and a pleasure... now I'll likely be more diligent in blogging and blogging better.

I look forward to the day when "local" takes in about 10 square miles and there is a generous selection of members within that range who are as top shelf as the ones I've come to know in the rest of the Seattle area.

    Wonderful work!!

I highly recommend that everyone read Dan's recent blog post about the new features and new Membership Levels: http://blog.biznik.com/. They've added so many smart features to help build your credibility, visibility and findability. There is a lot to explore and the blog post sets it all up and makes it easy to understand.

The blue star (it's supposed to look silver) is for Active members, a new level of membership. Read this post for all the details.

oooow. it doesn't. and it looks like it's enterpreting my less than sign as html too.

auto adding in it's own greater than sign to finish off the stanza.

okies. i'm getting around better now. still miss the green background.

i tried to post a new jpeg image for my profile and a bunch of coding showed up in my image spot. ??? so i put the former image back in.

    >>how about a note in the profile image posting spot that tells you what max file size the profile image poster will accept?

biztalk: i am not noticing the option to be sent an email when someone posts response to something i have posted about. i really miss this feature as it saves me time from navigating my way in and thru posts to see if anyone has responded to posts i have created/responded to. PLEASE put it back :)

also like the old setup where things weren't broken up into categories. i could see everything without having to click into multiple forums like we do now. i'm sure there are mixed feelings about this one. heh. personally, i feel not having them broken up exposes me to more conversation possibles, while saving time of not having to browse each forum section.

    >>can you make it an customizable option where we can have the choice to view all topics/threads at once...or maybe just the new ones all at once..OR to keep things separated like they are now.

    make sense?

    thank you!!!

paragraph returns are not sticking for short blips like this it all runs together instead of breaking where i hit the return.

my last post on e pitches had several short lines that all showed up as all one paragraph. cant read it very well.

Amy, you might try using an RSS reader to keep up with forum comments.

Dan - RSS is working great in Google Reader, but I'm having a hard time getting it to read more than the single latest comment in Outlook. Any idea what's wrong? Feeds from other sources are working as expected in Outlook.

What do you mean by "not working for you" Amy? Technically not working for you, or you just don't like watching the video clips?

    The new site is Dakine!

Is there a way to see the full list of approved event venues without the search box?

    Great work Mr McComb :)

    Dan/John,

I love the way you can see someones basic info just by dragging your mouse over the photo. It's the little things that make it so you don't have to click around that really matter. Well done!
