Subscribe to 864Community - Discussion Goals and Affirmations

I was talking to my wife today about the primary difference between goals and affirmations. We concluded that goals are typically set from time to time, but affirmations have to be practiced much more frequently.

For example, if we set a goal of losing 20 lbs, we might do that as an event on a particular day like January 1st.

The affirmations around that goal have to be practiced daily.

  1. "I enjoy eating healthy, well-balanced and well-proportioned meals."
  2. "I enjoy daily exercise which restores my body, mind, and soul."
  3. "I inspire others when it comes to health and wellness."

The affirmations really act as the POWER behind the desired goal itself.

What affirmations are you practicing these days?

Since I was in the conversation, let me put in my 2 cents!

Practicing affirmations is creating a future history for yourself. In other words, if your goal is to lose 20 lbs, you visualize being 20lbs thinner as a current reality.

The more your mind becomes comfortable with that reality, the more your actions will follow.

The practice of affirmations without visualization and emotional attachments is ineffective. You must both see yourself and feel the positive emotions associated with living a healthy lifestyle.

So I have a goal of getting up at 5am to go to the gym and exercise regularly. Let me see . . . this has been a goal since 1998 I think. What year is it? Anyway, setting the goal just isn't powerful enough. My AFFIRMATION Process is the following:

"I wake up early each morning at 5 to go out on my deck, have a cup of fresh hot coffee, and enjoy the views of Puget Sound."

"I feel fantastic as I get to the gym and start to build momentum in my daily exercise routine.'

"I am an inspiration to my family and friends when it comes to health and fitness."

Okay, so most of the time I roll out of bed, hit the shower, grab my cup of coffee to go and race off to my first morning appointment at 9! But the days I practice my affirmations, the power of the words, the visualization, and emotions associated cause me to act much more than just the goal itself.

Having a slight edge from one day over the next is what I'm looking for and these affirmations make all the difference!
