Subscribe to Dog Lovers Unite - Discussion What kind of dog do you have or do you love?

Thought it would be fun if people introduced themselves via their dogs...as happens on a walk sometimes.

I don't have a dog, but growing up I had a schnoodle--that's a schnauzer-poodle mix. She was really snotty to other dogs and people, but I loved her with all my heart. She and I were babies at the same time so we grew up together. When I got sick she would howl at my bedside.

My other dog showed up on our backporch, all skin and bones. She'd been abused and was starving. My dad said, before he left town: "Whatever you do, don't FEED that dog, or she'll never leave!" As the car pulled out of the driveway, my mom and I raced for the dog food. She was our dog for the rest of her life and my dad adored her. He and I took her on her last walk together and he cried most of the way.

Dogs just find their way into your heart. I'd love to meet your dogs on a walk sometime! I am hosting lots of Walk and Talks through the Walk and Talk Group and we'll try to get the dog friendly walks cross posted here. I hope you'll join us or host some dog friendly events of your own.

My dog is a Muggin (a Miniature Pinscher/Pug mix). He's super adorable and very smart -- he can do tons of tricks! He has the high energy of the min pin and the goofyness of the pug. He keeps me laughing all day long and gets me out on long walks (that I wouldn't otherwise take!)

I have a sweet, and adorably yappy Sheltie named Nutmeg. Her sister, Ginger, passed away at Christmas. My next Sheltie will be called Cinnamon. These are all my "spice girls".

I have two Jack Russells (Winston & Mercedez)and they are great. They bounce like small pogo sticks when someone comes to the house they know. I just love my dogs because they are very outgoing, smart and people friendly. They are now 8 years old, and I don't believe they will mellow out for atleast another 8. I've had other dogs throughout that I have loved, but these two seem to bring out the best in me. Plus it helps that they make me laugh!

My dogs are Chewy, a 12 year old ShepherdX, Leia, a 6 year old mini dachshund and Levi, a 9 month old red heeler. They all get along well and I appreciate my older dogs' role in raising a puppy/adolescent cattle dog! Levi is a VERY busy boy!

My two dogs are high quality mutts! Jazz (pictured) is a black mutt. . . Official breed designation: North American Black Dog, Cajun Style. She's a Hurricane Katrina rescue. She arrived on New Hampshire soil with heartworms and a PDA (a congenital heart condition) We had both problems "fixed". And, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary paid for treatment and surgery.

My other wild girl, Jane, is a North American Brown Dog, Southern Style. A lean 35 lb street dog from Huntsville, AL.

    They WAY make my day!

Charlie Parker was first spotted in a craigslist ad under rehoming. He was bedraggled, unhappy, scruffy and beaten down. Nonetheless, he had attitude. I agreed to “just look” because I had my heart set on another type of dog.

I literally met the less than charming owner in an abandoned parking lot way out in the boonies. It was scary and Charlie (his original name, I added the Parker because he was very jazzy) extended his little paw. That was it-he was going home with me.

Surprisingly, he had an identification tag. I called the listed vet to make sure he was not stolen. I was locked in my car with the dog while the previous owner paced, cursed and cased my car while smoking about a hundred cigarettes. The vet assured me that she was the rightful owner even getting the cigarette brand correct. He told me he was thinking of calling the SPCA and would be thankful if I would take him so she would never come in again.

I paid the exorbitant ransom and wondered if I could love this dog back to a reasonable state.

Fortunately, Charlie was smart enough to maximize a good situation. He stopped cowering after a few months, stopped running from the broom and quickly adapted to his new environment. His appearance and demeanor changed dramatically from hang dog to top dog. Even more amazing, underneath the matted coat, long nails, stained teeth, etc., he was exactly the breed of dog I originally wanted (surprised the experienced groomer). I love him!

Long story short: Adopt, rehome, go for a mutt or a breed. I will get another when I can.

I have an Australian Cattle Dog named Shot Gun. She has been a perfectly trained dog since I got her from and animal rescue shelter about 2 years ago.

She loves to do tricks like hi-fives, shake, dance, and take a bow. She just learned to bring her collar when it is walking time.

She is good at agility though only in our back yard, gets along well with 99% of the dogs she meets, and is very protective.

She will join me on some biznik walks in the near future.

I have three dogs (and two cats). There's Ahaluna who's a Puggle (Pug/Beagle), Haruki Makoto who's a Pug, and Lucy Goosey who is a Beagle- no they're not related. I have grown up with dogs my whole life, but Ahaluna was mine and my boyfriend's first dog together. Shortly after got Lucy, and a couple months after that adopted Haruki. Lucy is our rescue dog. She came from a neglectful home with 10 other big dogs. She had severe separation anxiety for the first while she was with us. But soon I assume she realized we weren't going to abandon or leave her and she's now used to us coming and going. But of course she's happiest when we return :)

Ahaluna is our baby and views herself as the princess. I'm almost positive she doesn't view herself as a dog. When we let them sleep with us, she always has her head on my pillow and covered with the blankets up to her neck. She doesn't like to go outside when it's cold or rainy, and loves when the heater comes on so she can sit on the vents.

Haruki is a huge people pleaser. He likes the company of humans over fellow dogs and at the dog park hangs around the table to try to get all the love he can. Typical Pug: clown-like and animated. loves to show off his toys and one very high jumper so such a small dog!

Dog and animals are my passion and there's a good chance I would save a pet before a peer- harsh I know, but that's my automatic reaction.

Over the years I have had Lhotse-a Lhasa Apso, Skye-a Foxhound/St. Bernard mix, and Dallas-a Doberman/Lab mix. We had all of them from puppies until old age. We still have Dallas. He is 10 years old now and is the love of my life (and the namesake of my business). He was a stray who found me and forever changed my life for the better. I love all animals. Each and every one holds a special place in my heart. Dallas truly is my best friend.

I have a sweet, black Patterdale Terrier (possibly mix, but who knows) that we adopted from a rescue group about five years ago.

I have an 8 year old rust and tan Doberman Pinscher. Her name is Ginger and she's the sweetest and most intelligent dog I've ever had. Her favorite indulgence is when I clip and file her nails. She's a little prima donna. LOL

I got a puppy recently and I don't know what breed it is. The owner told us she was a Poodle mix with Yorkie, but Yorkie's don't shed and she does. I believe she's a German Shepard because for a 2 month puppy her legs are extremely long. So I was wondering if anyone could help me find out what dog she is..... Thanks. xoxo Naty

I have a 6-year old Tibetan Mastiff named Leo. If you don't know what a Tibetan looks like (most people don't, there are only about 1100 of them in North America) feel free to Google it - he looks nothing like the typical English Mastiff you see in dog shows. As I understand it, this is the original Mastiff breed that all the other Mastiffs were bred from. Yeah in some ways large dogs are kind of a pain - you can't take them everywhere and this particular one sheds like a beast in the spring and summer, especially this year because we had so much snow last winter. He has a big, booming bark and a head like a lion. I have had him since he was 9 weeks old and he is SO dedicated to loving and protecting our family I wouldn't part with him for the whole world.

Nathalie, can you post a picture somewhere to share with us? There are some dog specialists in the house and that might help.

John, your dog sounds awesome. We had a big German Shepard when I was born and he was super protective and loving of me. He once cornered a Jehovah's Witness who came to our house and tried to ask little four-yr-old me where my parents were. He would never have let anyone hurt me.

    Dogs are such great companions...

I am...I mean... I have a Golden Retriever, Abigail. She has auburn hair (like me) and smiles all the time (like me). She's pure joy with a tennis ball fetish.

I've had her since she was 8 weeks old, she's two now. She's helped me through the most difficult time of my life. She's been a breeze to train, does all kinds of fun tricks, and adores kids.

The best thing about her is her relationship with my 12-year-old cat. They are best buds. He's a great cat who loves his dog. They're quite cute together.

My name is Zeus, mom says I'm going on 7 years old and that I'm a brindle boxer boy. I'd say I'm handsome, funny, a bit mouthy, energetic and loyal. I hang out with mom during the day while she "works", and about the time my tummy starts to growl for dinner, dad comes home and we play a round or two of chase tag. The rest of the time I'm either eating horse...errr, playing with the horses or lounging in the sun or on one of my 3 beds. Yeah, this is the life!
