I'm not a 7, but I have so many in my life that I'll try to give an example:

A girlfriend of mine is finally FINALLY stepping outside of her awful job to pursue the advanced degree she's always wanted. And now she's getting push-back from her family, who don't want her to move away, or to pursue this particular degree.

I notice that 7s tend to get overloaded with feedback. My friend lives her life out loud, heart on her sleeve, and many people take that as an invitation to comment.

She already struggles with all this feedback, especially since she can't please all the people AND herself at the same time. (God, who can?!)

7s get a lot of flak for being "selfish," and I see her wrestle with following her authentic path at the risk of disappointing people she loves.

    Any of that sound familiar?

I'd love to hear other challenges out there...

I need to refer back to the Enneagram book and identify which struggles I have are 7ness-related and which are just plain Banu-ness! :)

I DO get annoyed when people dispense feedback when is clearly just their opinion but they try to make it sound absolute. I pick and choose whose opinions I trust. I might not show it but I am VERY picky with who I respect and want to see both an open heart and an open heart in people from whom I seek advice\feedback from.

I have been struggling with career choices all my life but don't think it has anything to do with pleasing anyone else. Haven't figured that one out yet. Not saying that I don't have a pleaser in me though. :)

    Nice, Banu.

I think 7s do tend to receive a lot of unsolicited feedback, in part because you guys are so "live my life OUT LOUD" and therefore feel more accessible than some other types.

Sevens tend to be responsive to outside influence, as well, and more innocent than cynical. But at some point, sevens hit overload on the feedback/advice/influence intake and get very annoyed. Extremely pissed, even.

This is certainly understandable AND also shows the path to a master-level skill for sevens: to live with an open and innocent heart while also maintaining self-loving boundaries.

A great idea for type 7 to play with is that of learning to say an open-hearted "No."

This group is going to have a wonderful impact for me, I can see that. Yes, I wear my heart on my sleeve and some people don't like that. I also process by talking. Sometimes some optimistic ideals that are just talk, and that can cause misunderstanding also. Well, sounds like we can be with a bunch of people who understand each other without driving each other crazy:)

Hey--I've also wondered, how much do the other things impact the Enneagram -- Birth Sign, Birth Order, Meyers Briggs Profile, etc.

As a person trained in Systems Theory, I believe everything affects everything. :)

This is a great idea for a discussion in the Enneagram Lovers group. I think I'll start one there and send you the link, Terry. Thanks for the question!
