Subscribe to Groups Group - Discussion Display group descriptions? Edit description, photo and tags?

Where did the description go?

When I created my group, I filled in a large text field for "description." I do not see it anywhere in the group pages.

I'm noticing that I see a "What we're about" section on other groups I have not joined, (although not in this Groups Group, which I did join). Perhaps this description is visible only to non-members?

After further testing

Answer: Yes. I tested by leaving the Groups Group. The "What we're about" section was revealed! Upon joining the group again, it disappeared.

By design? Or a bug? I'd prefer it was there for everyone.

Editing description, photo and tags?

I don't see any place to edit description, tags, or photo now that the group is created. Coming soon?

Our thinking with hiding the description - once you've joined- is that it would otherwise always be at the top, taking up hugely important real estate. It's more of an ad to get people to join. How many times does someone really need to read the description of a group?

You raise a great point about not being able to edit the description - I can't find it either, so we'll need to add that. Seems you should be able to edit your description and the tags when you click the edit button, which is where you can currently edit the group name and tagline. We'll get that fixed asap.

re: editing and photo - you can (or at least should be) able to edit the group photo in the same way you can your profile photo - look for the little edit link under the image on the groups home page. If you're not see it, let me know and we'll fix.

We have updated the Group edit control to include both the Description and Tag fields.

Cool on the editing. Right where it should be now. (And I overlooked the obvious place for the edit link under the photo.)

I get the "important real estate" concept, and agree. It shouldn't go there front and center. But I'd like to see it somewhere.

How about just above or below the "Invite others" button? Putting the stated description in proximity to the invite button will help bring to mind people who fit the description, and spur more spontaneous invitations.

OK, Joe - we've added the description into the right sidebar. We put it immediately under the Invite button.

What do you think of the location?

I like the location! I was going to suggest that the description be some sort of hyperlink text that, when clicked, would reveal what-this-group's-about pop-up window or some such thing, but it look great right where it is.
