Subscribe to Overcome the e-Myth of struggle. - Discussion What is one positive thing you are doing?

Being self-employed and owning a small business can feel like constant hard work. It is also gratifying and can provide heaps of promise and benefits. What is one positive thing you are doing that is changing the way you re working or relating to your own business?

I have just hired an assistant for three hours a week. Not a lot of hours but very significant.

    Kaya

Its all about identifying your priorities on a weekly and daily basis and always trying yo complete the #1. If you get distracted, you should have the discipline to come back to it. Once you have built this habit, create a rhythm by doing this every day.

For more on this please read my Biznik article Rhythm - Key to Strategy Execution.

    Great advice Prafulla

My number 1 today is getting my taxes done today and it's taking a huge discipline!

Hiring support staff and an assistant, and moving out of our home office into a separate office down the street, helped me separate the personal from my business life. As a result, my personal time has become much more restorative, and the time I spend on my business is much more focused.

I put an ad on Craigslist to find a tutor for learning PHP (programming language for building websites). I had been teaching myself, but was running into stuff that I didn't understand and wasn't sure I was doing right. I needed a guide and someone to ask questions when I got stuck etc. I found the perfect person and am meeting with him once a week at a coffeeshop. I feel so much better and am moving forward on projects that have been languishing while I decided what to do. (I had thought about hiring it out, had been trying to teach myself, etc, but wasn't getting anywhere). I finally decided I wanted to do it myself (at least at this point) but didn't know how and needed help to learn, not help to do it. Even if I hire someone at some point, I want to know enough to know what they are doing, and that the project is well-designed. So finding a tutor was a perfect solution!

Oh and I'm doing my taxes today too! I'm using a help authoring tool to document all my procedures so next year will be easier. =)

Lara Congrats about moving out of your home office and hiring staff. What a wonderful affirmation of your business.

Emma Isn't that great how you can find what you need on Craigs list? I did that once too and found someone to help me with WordPress and it was so easy.

I did get my taxes all done and given to my tax guy yesterday. I am wondering about your tool....sounds good.

    Hi Kaya,

I just joined the group and noticed this discussion.

My "positive thing" is to continue reminding myself that whatever I focus on grows. So the more I get caught up in all of the negative economic news, the more I will begin to experience it personally.

Conversely, the more I focus on how wonderful my clients are and how much I enjoy helping them express their knowledge and talents in their websites, professional articles and book manuscripts, the more great clients and projects I will attract!

This seems to be working, because the last few months have been my best ever.

    Clarice

What wonderful news to share. I am right with you on this! The most empowering thing any of us can do is to focus on our clients and what they need.

    Thanks for sharing. Kaya

The most important part of my day, as a small business owner AND as a naturopathic physician, is to sit and feel gratitude. Sometimes, even a flat tire can force me to slow down and breathe. Even though it could add to the stress of the day, I try to take that moment as it's been given, and use it gratefully. It's not always easy, but it's helped my mindset (and blood pressure) immensely!

@Kaya I'm using HelpStudio 3. It's kind of expensive but you can do a lot with it. I wrote this tutorial with it: http://www.acornhost.com/articles.html?article=5

It does the little drop down widgets and whatnot for you.

Hmm. I am wondering why all the comments are showing up twice.

Katie I love that gratitude focus. When I remember I do that in the morning before I get out of bed and it makes the whole day start very sweet and positive.

Emma Thanks for sharing. I'll have a look at your tutorial when I have time :)

I finally decided to get help with organizing my office. It's been a goal of mine for too long and I'm finally convinced I need help.

I'm going to have a friend of mine come over and find out from what organizing stuff I can do with what I have. Then I may look into an organizing expert.

I know once I get a system I will keep with it but it's just overwhelming to me.

Thanks for the invite to the group Kaya. I hope some day I will be able to meet you. =]

Hi everyone. I thought I'd re-energize this topic.

One positive thing for me this week is finally settling on the name for my book! Now all I need is to finish writing it and get a cover!

"The Entrepreneur's Handbook to Money and Freedom

10 Easy Steps to Move Your Small Business from Struggle to Empowerment"

What are you all up to?? I hope some of you will make it to the Urban Grind next Tuesday for http://biznik.com/events/get-out-of-your-office-and-connect-1

I have joined Toastmasters to help me in confident speaking to and in front of people.

This week I am also re-organizing my office, files, books and such. Oh what fun it is to drive a one woman organizing day!

Nancy Thanks for re-energizing this thread. My positive thing right now is putting together a wonderful group of folks who are on my team and helping me to get my book published. Team work is so important. I feel so grateful!
