Subscribe to Savvy Bloggers - Discussion Happy Blogging Moments

Blogging can be a lonely pursuit. We all have our days when we wonder if it's worth it.

Wouldn't it be great if we could motivate each other by sharing what's working for us in the blogging arena? This is your place to do that.

I'll be using your successes in my weekly Savvy Blogging group update. I encourage you to share things like: special recognition; a particular post that got you an increase in traffic or one that you are especially proud of (leave a link so we can visit); a new client or customer you got from blogging; something you figured out that made the blogging process easier, a guest post assignment you landed. You get the picture. Just anything and everything that made your day or week.

So come on, don't be shy. Jump right in.

Okay, I'll go first. I had two happy blogging moments recently:

    1. I was named an S.O.B. In case you don't follow the link, that stands for Successful and Outstanding Blogger. I'm so taken aback I still don't know what to say.

    2. My @IvyBean104 blog post got a Twitter retweet by Anita Campbell of Small Business Trends, which resulted in quadrupling my traffic in one day. The post was about the world's oldest twitterer, 104-year-old Ivy Bean and what we can learn about social media from her.

    This is great, Judy!

I recently started a second blog for AllBusiness, owned by D&B. The blog is all about relationship selling, and can be found at the link below. I would love to get more comments to that blog - so readers, feel welcome and encouraged! Thanks, Lori

    Lori,

I read your most recent post at AllBusiness. What excellent work and valuable advice! As a company, we dealt with that very issue so many times in the early years. The strategies you presented as you talked us through dealing with the "resistant client" are outstanding.

I would have commented but I ran out of time when I got to what proved to be a "Part II" in the registration. I need to go back when I have more time.

I encourage other Savvy Bloggers to check out Lori's blog. Way to go, Lori!

Two of my clients recently reported major spikes in their google analytics. They were both pleased and passed my name on to others.

    Terra,

Hooray! That's the best kind of news, isn't it? What did you do to make that happen? You should come to our Lunch for Savvy Bloggers sometime and share your tips and talents with us!

This is so cool. Hope this thread continues.

    Hi Judy:

Last month Allied Arts Foundation and 4Culture Heritage Special Projects Foundation awarded me grants to pursue a photo-documentary project that will be published on my historic cemetery research blog come September.

Not only does this show me a new perspective on King County but it also gives me the chance to expand into local readership. Currently, my subscribers are all pretty much every where else but Seattle!

    What great news, Gwynneth!

As a former grants consultant, I know that there are usually many more applicants than funds available. Very cool.

Good luck on your project and I look forward to reading your blog posts in the fall.

    Great job, Everyone! :)

I recently had the priveledge of interviewing the top decorating blogger in the U.S. (Holly Becker). I'm finding that I really love interviewing talented people and this was a real honor.

Great idea to share our successes, Judy!

I experience a “Happy Blogging Moment” just about any time something makes its way out of my brain and off to a corner of the web.

I probably write for a different reason than most. For me, it has become more of an outlet to allow those things that have been bouncing around inside to become organized thoughts in document form. It some cases the thoughts gravitate towards pedantic. At times my thoughts are pure reflections of observations that finally became colorized to the point of standing out from a black, white and shades of grey world.

In short, it’s all rather therapeutic on a number of levels. I’ve never taken a marketing approach to it (although marketing is a big part of what I do outside the blogging world). I’ve never been overly concerned about the number of people who read what I write, or how many comments I get (although comments are always a pleasant surprise and leave me feeling good that someone found a nugget of thought worth entertaining).

I blog to let what’s inside get out. And if any of it happens to get on a passer by, hopefully they’ll be pleased with the stain left behind.

    Mark,

What a thoughtful comment. I love your first sentence. Actually, I feel that way a lot, too. Seem to have this deep-seated need to communicate!

You know, I think the best writing, at least for blogs, and probably elsewhere, too, emerges when "marketing" is not necessarily your goal. People connect to people. Readers like writers who are "like them," with the same fears, hopes, weirdness, even. I've found that when I can connect with readers on that level, they'll listen to what I have to say in other areas, too.

And comments? I think they are highly overrated. I used to be so bummed when I didn't get tons of comments. Until I read about the 90-9-1 rule. Statistics show that 90 percent of your readers will never leave a comment, 9 percent leave a comments now and then and...ONE PERCENT regularly comment. Even if they loved what you wrote, it's likely they won't comment! Because we are specifically looking for action with our blog (signing up for our weekly e-tip, clicking through to our website, etc.), I do want to increase page views, though.

Great comments, Mark. I'm sure it got us all thinking.

Blog post topics that choose me and insist on being written are my favorites.

After finishing my book encouraging readers to embrace happiness, I had fun writing a post to people who seem to have a vested interest in being unhappy, this post.

    Hi Flora,

I know what you mean about the posts that "choose me." If you are like me, those turn out to be the most popular ones with readers, too, because they can feel you passion.

The link you provided above takes me to a post about time. Which post, exactly, is the one about happiness?

    Hi Judy,

The post I referred to is here at Do You Really Want to Be Happy?

    Sorry about that.
