Subscribe to Slightly Famous in Seattle - Discussion Vision for this Group

Thank you for joining this group!

My great desire for us here is that we have a place to let each other know what kind of speaking opportunities we are looking for. This will be a place where we can share ideas and tips for improving our speaking skills. This will also be a place to share resources.

Eventually, I would like this group to create enough interest that event planners will find their way here to use this group as a resource to find speakers for their events.

As an event planner with 2 events each month in need of speakers on a business topic, I know first hand that finding good speakers with relevant and timely information can sometimes be daunting.

I hope you'll join me here in writing articles and creating discussions that will help us all improve our ability to gain more visibility and enhance our expert status as we grow from being "slightly famous" in Seattle to wildly famous right here in our own backyards ... and beyond!

This group sounds awesome, Zita! Looking forward to whatever we create.

I've also just become one of Patrick Snow's certified Publishing Coaches, helping entrepreneurs write and publish quality books that lead to paid speaking engagements, and showing them how to utilize the book as a lead-generating tool AND an additional profit stream.

    Thanks for the invitation.

    Kate,

You'll be a great resource here for anyone wanting to learn how to use a book to create more speaking engagements. Thanks for joining and I look forward to your contributions here.

I have been asked to speak at a variety of business "groups" over the years - my expertise is in barcoding and automated data collection. For some groups I can fill an hour+ no problem. For most you have to be pretty damn fascinated with barcodes to sit through an hour or more of the subject.

What I do think though is that each of us have a unique perspective and knowledge of our own industry and how that can relate to business in general. What about a speaking "bazaar" once or twice a month that features 4 speakers each with 15 minutes that both showcase the knowledge and subject, but help each of us to expand our network. Perhaps an open invitation on here for people to attend and watch. Thoughts?

    Hi Eric,

I think that is a great idea and we can certainly float it out to the rest of the group to see if there is an interest in doing this.

I'm going to be traveling for a week or so but when I get back I'll put some attention on this idea.

    Hi Everyone!

I am realizing that I wear two very distinct and prominent hats quite well: green interior decorator AND connector. Ask me questions about either topic and my brain goes wild.

I've been wondering how I might be paid for the connector part of myself. Maybe speaking engagements? Part time coaching? A colleague just told me that if I want to start doing some coaching on a paid basis, she would refer people my way who are in stages of career transition.

I LOVE decorating. I LOVE being a connector.

Can I adequately wear both hats? I know I've got to either do it or not. No willy nilly.

I definitely want to get into public speaking. I've got a mini start already in both departments and my next gig is in the Referrals workshop with Julie Hutton in April. I don't have a next speaking gig for interiors set just yet. I DID do my first workshop in February so the ice has been broken!

    Feedback?

    Glad to be here! :)

Thanks for creating this group. After recently speaking at the CRAVEbusiness Symposium SHOP / 09, I think now is the time to dive into my long-time desire to do more presentations. I look forward to Slightly Famous in Seattle being an awesome resource.

My thanks as well for creating this group. I'll be hosting a couple of historical cemetery presentations next month and I'm excited about the opportunity to branch out further in this area.
