I have been using Social Media for about 3 years now. The first year, I really didn't see a reward though.
Now I can tell it pays of due to increased site visits from social posts and word of mouth.

For example: After every post on Twitter, I get 1 or 2 folowers, but I also notice that over the next few hours my site stats will have jumped up!

Also, people are going to my site because someone else used one of the site "Share" buttons to let them know about it.

That's how I know its working for me.

My strategy in using Social Networking is primarily to get conversations started and then see who responds. I get a lot of invitations to connect and after I check out their profile, I usually accept.

However here's where the strategy begins. I send people the message below. The people who respond to me are the ones that are indicating they want to continue building a relationship with me and those are the ones I start investing my time with.

This works because it is systematic and also because it identifies the few among the many to continue building the relationship process.

    Below is my message

    Thanks for joining my network.

I would like to continue to build our relationship so I'd like to share QuoteActions -- something that is very near and dear to my heart.

QuoteActions are short emails containing an interesting or inspirational quote followed by a recommended action to help brighten your day.

    Here's an actual QuoteAction:

"Talent without discipline is like an octopus on roller skates. There's plenty of movement, but you never know if it's going to be forward, backwards, or sideways."
    Writer, H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Your action for today is to finish a project you have been procrastinating on.

If you would like to accept this gift, please let me know and I will send you the link for you to opt-in.

    Warmest Regards,

    Rick

Interesting approach. I like it, because it does set up a genuine relationship with the people who decided to take you up on it.
