Blogging & American Idol - How they're similar!

If you've ever wondered why blogging can be so effective, scary, and confusing - here's a great analogy that might clear a few things up.

American Idol follows the life of aspiring artists. You see their weaknesses, you see them grow and learn, you see them get tested, and sometimes fail.

But when the show is over they still haven't put out a record...

What they do have, though, is a huge following of loyal fans that have been with them through the thick and thin. They could put out the worst album ever and probably still sell like mad.

If you're working on releasing a product, say a book or a car, in a few months - blogging could give you the American Idol effect. Let people come into your world. Let them see your mistakes. Let them feel your pain and gain.

Then when your product comes out... Kablamo! An already excited fan base for you to sell to. That fan base will also like you for you and let you make a few mistakes before abandoning you. Which is a rare thing and much needed in a new business.

OUTSTANDING ARTICLE!!! Though I'd qualify the "in a few months".... to "after 100 posts or so" because when I launched my blog to promote my book, it took about 100 posts for the blog to "find" it's voice.

Blogging is a great promotional tool, but the results are directly proportional to the effort exerted.
