  • Holy Canoli, I never even saw it, but it must have been subconsciously injected into my mind. I've seen the page header at least 50 times without seeing that tag line (or registering that I saw it...) must be a solid idea...Thanks for the chuckle, Christian!

  • Ilise, an entire Biznik event could be organized that just talked about Biznik networking mechanics, with a specific focus on nametags. So many people miss this opportunity to brand, connect and promote themselves as well as help others with their nametags alone. Thanks again for the solid article.

  • While I'm at it, I have also discovered another moment I'd like to share. The specific time and date I don't rightly recall, but the essence is this: you can't charge for something that is readily available. Further, the only real way entrepreneurs make money is to be "of service" to people.

Withholding information that you might readily be sharing otherwise doesn't entitle you to money. You are valuable for what you can provide in real time, not what you think you have amassed in your mind and think others have not. No offense meant to coaches and mentors, but if you have some really valuable "tricks" to share, then your best bet in the long run is to share them. Do it soon and often and freely. People will eventually see you as a resource and eventually consider paying you good money for good consulting. The rest is snake oil. Give it up and it will come back. Horde it and sell it off and you cheapen yourself and your profession, whatever your are or whatever it is. I say this as a consultant and a person who would definitely benefit from withholding expertise. It's never worth it, and you know in your heart you need to share your genius. Do it and put your trust in yourself instead of your pet ideas. You'll prosper beyond your wildest imagination when you help others first.

  • Brenda, good point about mainstreaming and the dangers of greenwashing. As for people having "finally embraced sustainability', I would not go that far considering the overall population. We live in CA and WA and surround ourselves with green folks, but if I were to travel 1 hour in any direction (except West into the Pacific...) I would find myself a sustainable minority once again.

It's a multi-stage evolution we're hopefully in right now, and it takes folks like us to lead the way. I love the straw bale house you're rocking, by the way. I wrote this article to trigger a few more deep mirror gazes, and hopefully inspire some more leadership in this unstable economic era. I'm not saying that nobody is walking their talk, I'm saying it's hard for some and worth that effort every time. Particularly for the folks who can lead the way publicly, we've got to step up where we are and show others how it's done.

I definitely try my best to "meet people where they are" in their sustainable evolution, but I'm not interested in looking the other way as people in my own industry throw up their hands and say "I'm (doing XYZ green action), so I don't have to do more, and don't want to be asked to stretch". In particular, I noted in my article that I myself have a long way to go, and so do we all.

I'm interested in raising the bar across the board, and particularly interested in leading and helping others lead regarding the green movement's walking of their own talk. It's how we as early adopters pave the way for the great green wave that will follow.

  • Excellent event, Liam. 8/10 sins and counting. I'm sure we've all done some amount of these biz blunders but I really appreciate having them listed and brought to light. I especially liked the handy mnemonics like "double dutch" and "flying solo" to help remember the list. Good stuff.

  • Thanks for the warm welcome and understanding about today's no show on my part. Although my biz partner Becca and I were planning on overlapping at this meeting, I had a series of family commitments that precluded my presence this morning. My apologies for not posting my pending absence.

As to the future, it does sound to me that we're not going to be a good fit for this Mastermind group, but Becca and I wish you all the best in all your biz endeavors. Happy MLK day, and happy inauguration tomorrow.

    Respectfully, Aaron Campbell www.campbell-energy.com

  • Sage, i'm interested in see how this referral program works for you. I'm thinking of doing a similar thing. What's the "Seattle Great City Initiative"?
