  • Love the list of tools that are showing up all over re: the use of Twitter!!! My trouble is choosing one or two to get the job done without spending tons of time exploring them all!

Tomorrow (Sun March 29) the Working Artists Network is hosting a Roundtable in Portland OR with a panel of folks who use social media to market their art and creative services - one tool of which is Twitter (of course!). Biznik members Jeff Fisher and Rebecca Shapiro are two of the presenters, and I'm moderating. It promises to be quite a powerful presentation...

You can find information on this event at http://www.workingartistsnetwork.com/?page_id=72

  • Um, of course, there's souk - hot desks, temp office space, has all the amenities a small biz meetings needs: A/V, white boards, projector, small conference rooms that may be used as breakout rooms. Down town China town. 322 NW 6th. http://soukllc.com

And CubeSpace, similar set-up but a bit more cubey [not an open arena like at souk]. 622 SE Grand Ave. http://cubespacepdx.com/

  • Urban Grind @ 2214 NE Oregon - 2 blks north of Sandy at NE 22nd Avenue (there's another UG in the Pearl District and I"m unfamiliar with the facilities) - lots of general meeting space and a private meeting area. In the gen'l area there is a large flatscreen to which a laptop may be connected. Wireless. Great coffee. FANTASTIC owner [Kevin].

Townshend's Tea House on NE Alberta. SMall intmate tea shop. No A/V - great for small group or one-to-one meetings. Wireless. FAB tea, snacks, etc.

McMenamin's Kennedy School near NE Killingsworth and 33rd. Everything you want form small meeting spaces to whole auditorium. A/V avaialble + food.

Sydney's Cafe on NW Thurman and 16th. Great meeting space. Wireless. Open area in a funky old brick and wood building. Great salads, coffee, AMAZING homemade granola. Not sure about A/V.

Lucca's on NE 24th and Fremont -they have a wonderful separate room for a smaller group meeting. Food is FAB. Not sure about wireless.

  • Hey All ~

My cousin is coming into town that day - and we've not seen him in over a year. Not sure I can make it - recovered knee or not... Will keep you all posted.

Oh, and snap=torn or detached - I'll know which version it is on Monday.

    Big hugs and all that!

  • I plan to be there - and it somewhat depends on what happens with my knee (I snapped the ligament during the wonderful snow blitz we had - <sigh>).

    My best to all!!!!

  • My favorite business/life book is The Four Agreements. My favorite spiritual business coach is Mark Silver, to whom I will be forever grateful (you are welcome to drop me an e-mail and ask me why!).

I am also grateful for the influences of Kaya Singer and Molly Gordon - two remarkable women who have written powerful works.

Mark, Kaya and Molly are all members on Biznik - I recommend you reach out to them...

And finally, there is one science-fiction book that is at the top of my list that examines the "what will it take for us to evolve to live in harmony with all?": Mermaid Song by Gary R. Moor. His intention is to use his art form - storytelling - to be a catalyst for intentional, evolutionary change, and to that end he's launched a website to facilitate a "conversation" about that very topic. The site is Vallar Press

I recommend both his book and taking time to engage with he and others via his website.

Reach out to him personally as well - he's a newly released writer, self published, and your connecting with him would be welcome and inspiring. His e-mail is gary@vallarpress.com

So good to see you all here!!!!

    Best, A.

  • Kristen - what a powerful post. Although I'm not facing a life-threatening illness, my mother who lives with me is. Changing my priorities, including how and with whom I spend my time became a necessity, and has been quite a challenging experience. I find myself feeling guilty that I'm not as available to people as I once was, or that I've cut out of my life certain activities and relationships that were unendingly intense. It's been amazing to learn to keep to my guns and do what's necessary to move my life, and my business, forward.

I love your grading system, and loved even more the line about "gracefully jettisoning" clients below the "A" grade.

Thank you for sharing this. Timely advice.

    Kind regards, A.

  • First, I'd like you to know that I know that you're part cat. Each time the girls (me included) got carried away with a tiny bit of silliness, you landed on your feet and kept the event going to a powerful conclusion.

Secondly, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your business grow while growing to appreciate you and Holly more-and-more each time I get to be with the two of you. It's an honor to count you amongst the important people in my life...

And finally, I aspire to have my gem be as powerfully transparent to the world as is yours. Thank you for being an amazing example of how business and love can co-exist, producing wonderful, and profitable, results.

    Namaste, A.

Thank you for taking time to read and view the eclectic mix on my site... I'm hoping to get back to posting at least one article a week - but have found myself working through, finessing, improving infrastructure and products.

And it's so great to see so many comments related to the post heading and the tiny bit of content there... I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the Biznik community!

No rest for the committed they say!

  • Mark ~

Money is always a good topic (sales in particular) so I think the Heart Centered Sales topic wouldbe a strong one - and I'm thinking about both associations - WAN and SECP (over 1000 member arts and creativity indie folks who want to be profitable.

FOr me personally, I know the power of strategic alliances and think that would be a phenominal topic to explore.

    Hope this helps...

  • Where my websites are hosted there is a back end utility called cpanel. Through the cpanel I was able to install WordPress into directories of my website of my choice very simply. Your host company should be able to easily walk you through the steps of installing WordPress into your site's directories...

Not sure if that helps at all...

  • One thing to do is to draw out your concepts and use pull quotes to describe how the parts are to function. Kind of like a blueprint, but not so formal. Scan it if you do it by hand. Then based on the parts you know you need help (perhaps a cabinet maker if you are creating a light box, and her friend who is an electrician), open the yellow pages to trade organizations that work with people in that field and get in touch and see if they'll help you recruit someone for your project. There are also trade websites where you can get in touch ia e-mail with folks who might be interested in assisting. RUn an ad on Craigslist in the appropriate sectinos too - there are TONS of talented people scanning those ads. Let me know how it goes...
