  • this article reminds me a lot of a man I've worked with in the past, Bob Czimbal. If you want to read a book that spells this out further, check out, Kindred Spirits. http://abundancecompany.com/kindred_spirits_book.htm

  • Thanks, Rick. I liked #4 the best and collect sunflower seed heads every year, break the seeds out, put them in packets and give them away. Usually, I have done this just to see more sunflowers in my neighborhood and city (The Rose City no more!), and this year I thought I'd put my company (albertideation) on a label and stick it on there with instructions on how to plant, water, and grow the seeds. Ever since my first year attending Burning Man, I've been a big fan of giving things away, probably before that, too, but that's helped my awareness of gifting. Thanks for the reminder of how important that is. Anyone want some seeds? Get in touch :)

  • Thanks for the comments. Lately, I've come to see Twitter (thanks for readers sharing at my blog...) as also a kind of front porch - a place where we welcome people in, and also watch people pass by. Also, I neglected to mention Skype - which I use a lot. It's more than a telephone in a way, because it's on-line, it's connected to that world, too. Looking forward to developing this concept further :) Albert

  • I've been twittering for a while now. I disagree with your first item - follow me and I'll follow you. I don't usually follow someone until after I've checked out their profile and seen what their tweets are like. I read through the last 20 or so (sometimes it only takes 5 or so to make a yes or no decision). If someone is twittering that their foot hurts, or just lots of irrelevant stuff, I don't follow them, even if they're my friend! But if someone is sharing wisdom, interesting links or great poetry in their tweets, they're in like flynn!

  • Shy is not something to be proud of! I want to live in a world full of exhuberant, zestful, joyful and alive people, not shy ones. Instead of giving in to the fact that you're shy, and working around it, how about working on the shyness piece? Why are people shy? Probably has to do with early hurts from childhood. Rather than admit to shyness, why not take some time to look at that instead? A world of reserved people feels like a pretty boring place to me. Thanks, this has given me some thought about an article I may write on this topic as I often feel surrounded by zombies in this society! False extrovertedness is not what I'm prescribing, either - the super networker doesn't excite me, that much. But there must be a great place of middle ground where we can put out our welcome mats anywhere and really show up and be fully present.

  • Very helpful, Rick. I appreciate how many people don't see where this is going yet we do seem to be going somewhere. Much thanks from ever-grey but evergreen, Portland, Oregon!
