Coach Alex Groothuis is a veteran AAU, high school, and college basketball coach with 15 years of professional experience. Currently, Alex Groothuis serves as the Head Coach of the men's basketball team at Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth, Florida. Alex Groothuis joined the coaching staff of Palm Beach Community College in 2008 as an Assistant to Coach Tony Sheals. Alex Groothuis became Head Basketball Coach in 2009. Some of Alex Groothuis' myriad responsibilities as Head Coach of the Division I program include recruiting players, scouting opponents, running workouts, managing budgets, and monitoring his players' academics. Alex Groothuis began his professional coaching career working for a number of popular basketball camps, including Five Star, Eastern Invitational, Fordham University, Hofstra University, and Syracuse University. Alex Groothuis' first college coaching position was as an Assistant Basketball Coach at Brooklyn College from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, Alex Groothuis assisted Coach Herb Brown in preparing the Maccabi USA team for international competition in the Israeli Maccabiah Games. Alex Groothuis returned to the United States in 2001, at which point he served as an Assistant on the coaching staff of Wagner College until 2003. In 2003, Alex Groothuis became Director of Basketball Operations at Fordham University, where he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Division I basketball program. In 2004, Alex Groothuis moved out of his managing position into an assistant coaching role at Fordham. Before relocating to Florida and joining the staff of Palm Beach Community College, Alex Groothuis held short stints as an Assistant Coach at Paul Robeson High School and as Co-head Coach of the #1 ranked 15 and Under Nike Team Florida AAU team. In addition to his current work as Head Coach of the Palm Beach Community College basketball team, Alex Groothuis serves as a Physical Education Teacher for West Boca High School in Boca Raton, Florida. A graduate of Syracuse University, Alex Groothuis earned his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication. Currently, Alex Groothuis is working toward his Master's degree in Physical Education from Queens College. [less]
