The Value of Green Building in Today's Market

GREEN BUILDING IS NO LONGER MORE EXPENSIVE. Even in this tumultuous economy, green design adds value in many, many ways and cheap, easy fixes are definitely not a frugal approach.
Many people think of their home as their biggest investment and also as a buisness because the equity might be able to give you a better retirement. One of the things that had happen with this crisis is that the value of homes has gone down, remodels are made smaller because from a financial point of view people are not finding this a profitable way of investing.
The value that a green remodel can bring you is overall the fact that you live and enjoy your investment. That your money is helping you to live better now and that you wake up to a nice life because you are using your resourses to increas the quality of your life. So when you do it green it is a lot more because true green principles are commited to your connection to the world to the overall economy and in general to the well being of the world.
So when you are thinking of remodeling and making an huge investment in your home there are something that you need to keep in mind. In a remodeling project the key issue determining the price is the labor cost and maintenance over time, this is a great moment to take advantage of the deals contractor are giving and people are showing up on time so scheduling is just faster so what it used to be a 6month project can almost be cut in half because people are availabl and ready to work now, plus they are reducing their fares just to keep moving through this diffucult times.
When choosing materials, the amount of money spent in maintenance, meaning owner expenses, is what really counts. Construction in general has many upfront costs, but if you expand the use of a space over time, it just makes sense to have chosen better materials from the get go. If you follow the cost of any renovation, remodel and/or addition, green will not be more expensive only better.
The reason people used to remodel was for resale value, now that home prices are falling people need to realize that remodeling is for you, your well-being and for you to enjoy, because you may be in your home for longer that you want or think. People thought they could always go and look for their dream home elsewhere, but now the sustainable approach is to simplify, and in our case, to simplify what we already have.
When we practice sustainability in design we are thinking in a way that should have always been the only way - we are thinking local, durable, healthy for all and fair trade. This approach certainly is so much better in this day and age. In fact, this is the way of avoiding more chaos.
Remodeling is not going to stop because of crisis, yet some people are dropping green because it is thought to be more expensive. Life keeps changing and we need new environments that support the way we do things now. So, if you add the benefits green design and construction has, it just make more sense, and can help simplify your life, making it more efficient, less waistful and more fun.
