Those with a graphic design background work well with designers and can create sites that look great. Often however, they struggle with the interactive and accessibility aspects of Web development.
Especially in Seattle, developers with a strong technical background abound but most of them prefer not to talk to the client or gather requirements themselves.
Strong technical project managers are difficult to find but when you find one, they generally don't have an art background as well as prior programming experience.
Alyssa has more than 10 years experience working with the basic building blocks of Web sites and believes in clean, easy to maintain code that looks great in all major browsers. She has experience as a system administrator: architecting, maintaining, and securing the systems that power Web sites including database architecture and management. She uses Perl and PHP - two powerful open-source technologies which are cost-effective, extremely flexible, and lend themselves very well to Internet applications.
Alyssa holds a degree in Marketing Management from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. She has led several major technical projects and helped rewrite project management methodologies at the Port of Seattle.
